Dublin Open - Review

Colm O'Reilly hosted one of the best tournaments I've been at in a long time at UCD today.

Must have been about 30 kids down enjoying themselves, playing the game. Very good sportspersonship from all competitors and Owen Roddy and Colm did a great job along with support from Barry and some people working the desk. Lots of happy faces.

In the adult competition, it was fantastic because the numbers weren't as high I don't think as the previous tournament so everyone got loads of fights, 6,7,8 in some cases. Medals for people placed in the top three but unfortunetly nobody remembers the guy that came 4th (Judo Mick, 2006), or 5th for that matter!

Just a break down, categories were split by time training - novice or advanced, the split was around 12months training in most cases I beleive, then by weight, <75, <83 etc.

Really smoothly ran, lots of pepole from this board involved and participating. Great work.

    The RCI do fine work.

Most notable thing about the day was the shift upawards in weight categories. For shame Ireland, I only did as a social experiment not because I'm addicted to pies.

Thought the day went well, quick pace, good people - everybody in the right frame of mind.

Kudos to that guy who slapped his opponent, I was too shocked to say anything, I had to check with clive that it actually happened.

All in all very fun, good to see so many younglings.

Also once again, hail to the jim - he can organize.

Yes Jim did a fine job, as did Colm, Clive, Mick, Shane and all the good people who gave of their time to referee and officiate.

And just to explain something, from imdb because I got a few funny looks when I was trying to explain this:
Cleo McDowell: "Look... me and the McDonald's people got this little misunderstanding. See, they're McDonald's... I'm McDowell's. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds. "

Roper did you go around quoting bits from "coming to america" or did you sign yourself in as Randaay Watsonaah.

Thanks to everyone who helped out and a HUGE thanks to all the competitors - you make the day.

We had closer to 50 younglings competing, broken into 8 points categories and 2 submission categories - which was awesome.

I'll get results up soon enough but for me, the quote of the day had to be John Donnelly to his open weight fighters

    "Stay Heavy!" :D

    Brilliant!

Once again a huge gracias to everyone who made the Dublin Open.

    Colm

Last time Colm registered me as Roper, which made me feel like an enigma shrouded in a mystery, I kind of liked it. But yesterday I was plain old Barry oggll... uggles...og something (according to Judomick anyway);)

I would like to apologies on the SLAP incident, went to grab his neck and pull him back into guard. He pulled his head back and it landed on his chin!

Cheers to Brian (Three Castles MMA) for looking at the funny side of it, Shane the look on ur face was priceless!

Great comp, looking forward to the next one!

Additional props to Roper for taking my doughnut eating at the weigh-in for the whimsical jape it was, to The Shane for making me puke a little bit in my mouth during our match.
