The results of a survey posted on a new website for the discussion of parking policy in Cork indicates that towing and clamping policy is viewed by many as being designed to fill council coffers rather than control traffic in the city.

Launched this week, the website - www.corkcitytowingandclamping.com - was designed to be a forum for discussing parking policies and is not associated with Cork City Council.

Up to 75 per cent of drivers surveyed think that the towing and clamping system is designed to make money for the city, with 73 per cent saying that the council is over-zealous in relation to parking enforcement.

Some 63 per cent think that parking costs should be halved at weekends while 50 per cent say parking should be allowed in loading bays on Saturdays.

Hah. Judging by the number of cars typically parked on double yellow lines and single yellow lines during business hours, and the number of cars double parked or parked on bends, the council isn't being zealous enough.

Granted, they should give a bit of leeway to tourists etc, but with the number of stupidly parked cars down there the people deserve it. Look at the cars in the pics on that website. All blatently illegally parked, or parked stupidly.

and as for loading bays...do they think we dont deliver on a Saturday? Probably they do, they seem to think it's OK to park in loading bays all week.......and the Gards walk by and ignore them.....wheres my soapbox????

just looked at the poll results...pleasantly surprised...when you consider the biased nature of the people who would visit that site, they havent got it all their own way, have they!
