We're looking at getting flooring for our hall and open plan kitchen / dining room. I saw some beautiful semi-solid oiled oak boards. I would love to put this throughout. I know there have been loads of discussions about how hardwearing semi-solid is, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of this oiled wood. Can it be easily cleaned? I have two small children, so am I just asking for trouble?

    hi

im sure you have made your decision by now
    but in case not....

I had solid oak flooring in an oiled finish
and although it is beautiful it marks very badly
    (one toddler)

I ended up getting the whole lot re-sanded and
varnished with satin varnish - its still looks great though
and a varnish accentuates the grain

    ciao

I prefer good quality laminate for hard wearing, easy maintained flooring.
