Hi all, have been given my brothers bikeas he has retired from using it .
Its a GPZ 1000 RX 1987. Its being lying ideal under a tarp for about 8 years.
As a project it is a runner, the engine is in fine shape as are the electrics, most of the work is cosmetic but I believe the collector box is rotted through and this will probably entail a whole new exhaust. Trouble is they are not readily available, anyone know of a company that is able to supply this and other parts perhaps on the web /
Any and all comments and advice welcome, thanks !

    Nice project bike.

I googled and found this. The silencer is seperate. I am sure with a bit more time and effort you can find some more examples.

Ooh, a Rex. Like hen's teeth on the roads these days. I own a 1990 GPz900R which the RX was derived from, same engine just bored out a little.

The pipes should be pretty similar, I had to fit a Motad stainless collector/header on mine as the standard ones always rot eventually. Take the opportunity, when the pipe's off, to remove the sump and clean the oil strainer, any gasket goo or other crap in the engine builds up here, cuts the oil pressure and eventually kills the No.3 crank bearing.

Try http://www.gpz900r.co.uk for info, parts etc. the guy who runs it, Craig, is a sound bloke and won't bulls**t you. There's a good forum on gpz900r.org as well which has a good number of RX owners on it.

G'luck and let us know how it goes - why not send pics as you go along :)

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

yum yum, always like the RX.........a 'proper' big bike.......... there is no shortage of availability of exhausts for it - Motad etc all come to mind.

ok, update on this project, the rust damage to the tank is too extensive for repair so I am now looking for a tank, anyone know where I can get one ?
help would be greatly appreciated on this thanks

If the exhaust is still a problem, you could get one buit from scratch. Go to a specialist stainless steel welder.
The tank might be tough to get, but I'm sure there's lots of them on other GPZs that are knackered in other ways. You might need to stick an add in Irish Racer or some of the English mags.

Cheers guys, just got a line on a full exhaust ( Motatrd ) and an immaculate tank from a parts breaker in the UK. Looking for under 500 sterling for the lot, maybe just what I need, will keep you updated.
