okay wasn't sure whether to post this in the cs forum or here, but i can't seem to connect to IRC, Ventrilo or Steam anymore, my web browser works fine as well as msn messenger, everything is connected, it worked up until a couple days ago, as an avid gamer, this is quite worrying :S

is anyone else in shanowen having this problem, did they restrict ports or something? i haven't a clue what's gone wrong

oh and *cough* my limewire won't connect anymore either *cough*

    help appreciated!

(also phreakk if you read this could you ask Phil if i'm needed or not for WCG, it's tomorrow like, and i've no irc to contact him, i need to know!)

Port 22 is open so you can still ssh and use irc over redbrick or whatever.

They installed some sort of uber kewl traffic management system which is pretty much just blocking all the ports for steam, vent, torrents etc.

thedara is leading a rebel ground getting them all back.

    Pitchforks at dawn.

    the bastards!

okay well i haven't a clue how to use irc over redbrick can anyone tell me how to do that? i can start steam in offline mode and still see the servers in my favourites pinging at like 20-30, but if i connect steam crashes because it's not in online mode :(

should i go abuse them at reception?
demand a refund because they never informed me there would be some nazi management system when i paid?

campaign to have them fúck off with their blocking of ports anyone?

i went down to reception but feel that my argument of "i want to play computer games" isn't really good enough, i figure if i say i use the ports for networking with other students and that im a CA student and need everything available to me for educational purposes i could just confuse them into thinking i have a valid argument?

well i'll move out like over the internet, i know its really sad like, but after work i chill out online, if there is nothing on the tv i'm online, when i'm not drinking i'm online, and personally I think its really sly of them to block it a week after everyone moves in

Will these changed apply to DCU wireless lan and Comp Building Lan?
I hope to god it does :\ I am going into withdrawals without my irc :'(
But I doubt it will  I dont see how irc is such a dangerous thing :\
Ok an idiot could accept a virus over DCC but is highly unlikely

You can already use IRC on the DCU Wireless network iirc.

You just need to go throgh the dcu proxy.

I cant and I have tried 3 diff proxy settings that I found on this forums... :(
Oh and its quakenet and few others not RedBrick server..
A 2nd year CA student tried to help he said proxy settings I was using were correct and 6667-6669 must be blocked and would have to use port fowarding in Linux if I want to use it :'( but no Linux on my lappy and he didnt know how to do it in Windows. Found this http://wiki.redbrick.dcu.ie/mw/How-To:Port_Forwarding but as u can see Windows part yet to be done :P

    haha:
    Windows

    TODO: write this -igy

    oops :)

that guide is for connecting to stuff *IN* DCU when you're outside DCU, so it's really applicable, though the concept is much the same :)

    I NEED COUNTER-STRIKE.

    NEED IT.

oh and irc is blocked because it uses the same ports as ptp programs, which, fortunately means if they unblock the ports for irc, my limewire is back in action :D

Think that might've been me that told you the proxy settings looked right.. which they did... but ANYwho.. that port forwarding guide only applies if you're in redbrick or have SSH access to some other unix server (Join redbrick! ;) ). Although if you have a redbrick account you can just use the IRC client from there to connect to any IRC servers from anywhere anyway.
