What exactly do you mean by Car club?

I know that there is a Go-Karting club. Or is that a society now. :/

Was thinking of something similar myself, I'm starting the journalism masters next week. I didn't see a karting club in the list of clubs and socs on the DCU site.

I did my undergrad in UCD and there you had to run any new club/soc off your own bat for the first year to prove it was viable before they gave you a grant.

Karting and meets/photoshoots of cars would be the two obvious things to do, unfortunately the motorsports season is the reverse of the college year so any events in Mondello are on either close to exam time or during the summer hols. Only thing left this year is the drifting on October 22nd.

But anyways would definitely be interested in getting together with a few likeminded ppl and seeing if we could do something.

Karting is there all right . So couldn't really have that in with a new soc. I must get into this year as the league system looks good fun . The only problem is it seems to be always on Wednesday which always interfere with my football matches.

I am thinking more Mondello Open , where you can bring your own car and lash it around the track , or some advancing training days . ( If anyone want to go half on a new Ariel Atom , PM me)

You would defo get funding if you added advanced driving into the soc . Discounts on Advanced Motoring Courses , Mondello Race Training and even standard driving lessons for people wanting to learn just how to drive . Might bring in a wide variety of man and women.

Might look good on the manifesto.

I am available to help draw up all the paper work if needed etc..

When I started in DCU there was a modified car soc. I assume that's gone now, or have you checked properly?

You mean track days? They're wrapping up as well, last open day is 30th October. Otherwise you'd have to hire the circuit out privately, which costs five grand AFAIK!

yeah i was thinking things like outings to events like the drifting and to some of the drag events in the uk.

Maybe if we could manage it a drift car (perhaps a ca18det powered s13) that could be picked up cheaply and we pick 7 or 8 of the best drivers (it was my idea so i get a go:D ) to compete in it. It could also be used for drag events, probably wouldnt get very far but it would be a laugh.

i was also thinking maybe groups to Rally school Ireland in Fermanagh trackdays in mondello (if we had enough members 5k isnt much) giving eachother help with our own cars etc...

@tvr if you can manage tyres i'd be impressed i seem to always need them:D :D but seriously the best i managed so far was e45 a tyre for some pirelli p5000 195/45/15s, also would you mind pm'ing me about the paperwork i wouldn't know where to start its only my 1st year there:o

yeah no problem , rally school sounds good.

First of all we would need a general meeting point sometime next week or the following so as to get the min number of members before you go the union with the soceity / club proposal etc.

so basically we would need 20 persons signing to it plus their student number . can be done if we arrange a meeting etc or just pass it around in one of your classes.

First years will sign anything you know ? Its that easy. Get a big ecture hall. Preferably T101 or whatever its called.

Then go from there , shouldnt be that hard to copy and paste a constitution and pen some nice aims and objectives.
