Need Help Connecting Second Wireless Controller

I'm trying to play a two player game of Pro Evo but I can't get my friends controller to connect to my 360, like-wise when I tried the game in his 360 I couldn't get my own controller to connect to his machine, any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Did you press the sync button on the console, and hold down the sync button on the pad you wanna connect?

I must admit, I had to go looking for the manuel to get this working, and believe me, the only console that I had even thought that I'd need a manuel for its controllers was the Wii.

I'm also going to admit that I dont know if manuel is how you spell that particular word. After working as a tester for a few months, you'd think I should know.
