    yo,

need a bit of advice. girlfriend just bought a 2nd hand 14" iBook. it hasn't got an Airport / Airport Extreme card built-in. what USB wifi adaptors will work with the iBook and connect to my Airport Network and are under 50 euro or so?

    Cheers

    Ern

    D-Link DWL-G122 USB WiFi Dongle

Seems to be a popular choice with most.

You might also be able to score an Airport Extreme card for your iBook on Ebay for under €50. That way it's internal, nothing sticking out the side.

If its a G3, then forget Airport Extreme its physically different. You wil have to use the original airport card or hack the bejasus out of an Orinoco Gold card. Original airports cost about $129.

G4 iBook, then go for the extreme, cheap as chips TBH.

USB wise, DWL-122 and G122 as said already will work. They have been known to have driver issues though, and do not work with OS 9.

Chances are, Ernesto, that there will be a port in the iBook that an Airport card can literally be slotted into, so it will be the tidiest solution by far. Also, if the iBook is Airport compatible, once the correct card is in place, away you go, simple as that!

Theres nothing to take apart. Just lift the keyboard, clip on the antenna and it slots in. TBH its better than having a USB dongle that might get cought and damage your USB ports/logic board.
