i just got a macbook last week...I've set the screen to turn off after a specified length of time...when it goes black there seems to be a shape in the middle that's not as black as the rest of the screen....what could this be?

Apart from curiosity, is this causing you an actual problem?

Do you have the same problem when the computer is turned off completely?

could it possibly be caused by the logo / backlight ... except you are seeing it from the other side ?

it's not causing a problem, was just curious...it's probably for the back logo thingy...

Find someone else with a macbook, see if they have the same problem. By the way, how is the mac working out? hows the heat issue?

How long does the battery last on these MacBooks?

Go to arstechnica.com, good review on the macbook. They last from just under 3.5 hrs under load to just over 5.5 hrs with some battery saving settings (no wi-fi, low screen brightness, no intensive apps).

Thats pretty good, especially considering 3 and a half hours for watching a dvd, just read up on the whole "how apple applies thermal grease" on google first.

Oh, and makes sure you remove the plastic label that may have been left over the rear vent.
