Im looking for rivers / lakes to fish (- coarse or trout) that are near enough to Roundwood. I know theres Annamoe fishery and the Vartry Resovoir (exclusive club members only - you only get in if someone dies, so Im keeping a close eye on some of the elder members in the club to see if a potential vacancy may arise!), but are there lesser know rivers or lakes which are open to fishing? Any replies would be greatly appreciated!
P.s. If any Vartry members are reading - hope you're keeping well.

If you take the turn in Roundwood Village for Lough Dan, and follow the road for the Scouts centre for about two to three miles (it's windy and up and down quite a lot) you will come to a small concrete bridge over what looks like a 4 inch deep stream, this is in fact the Vartry river, if you hop over the old wooden stile on the right about 20 yards before the bridge and walk through the wood for about 150 yards ( you'll need wellies cause it's a bit boggy) you will come to a small bank that opens out a bit to a lovely deep pool thats about 6 feet deep and stuffed full of small wild brownies, the fish are very small but good fun, just return everything you catch so you can return to good sport the next time, the bank space is limited to maybe 2 anglers and isn't really suited to the fly unless you want to Wade.
I've fished here a bit and not had any hassle, just dont make a mess or leave rubbish and you should be grand.
