    Hey All,

I'm posting here for the first time and what led me to this site was that I recently completed the Ray Mears fundamental course in the UK and have been trying ever since to find somewhere in Ireland that I can practice some of the techniques that I learned. I have read some of the earlier posts by various ppl on the topics of fire lighting and good places to go (Black Valley, Blessington Lake etc) but is it possible to go to these places and to practice my techniques including having a fire without worrying about breaking the law, I mean I have learned all about leaving no trace and keeping a fire so could I get permission or should I just go for it as long as the fire is not in a particularly hasardous area as this seems to distinguish whether it is legal or not. Am I right??

Well, if you learned how to make a "Dakota Hole" fire, and use basic cop on like not lighting it in the middle of a forestry plantation. You should be OK.
Picture it as the leaving cert of your course, doing what you need to do without being caught.;)
