Steorn's Free Energy Machine: Hoax or Heroism?

I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed elsewhere on these boards, but I'm interested in people's opinions...

The Dublin based company Steorn say they have developed a technology that "produces free, clean and constant energy."

They recently advertised in the Economist (pdf) asking interested scientists to apply to test the technology. They've had over 3,000 responses and are now in a "selection" process to choose a panel of 12.

I find myself in a dilemma. Part of me wants to believe, the other part is going, "get real!"

There's a useful Wikipedia entry on the company and this article on a tech website is also interesting.

So, what does everyone else think: Are they genuinely onto something? Or is it all a massive hoax?

It has been discussed countless times on just about every forum that will take it.

General consensus is that it's a hoax. Fact is it's a hoax. Go with the part of you that wants to say "Get Real!".
