RTE TV on Sky in Leitrim

I convinced my mother-in-law to get Sky Digital at her home in Leitrim as the picture quality on RTE1 and RTE2 was terrible. She had it installed last week but the guys never gave her a card. Today the card arrived and she put it in the Digibox but she can't get any of the Irish Terrestrial channels through the Digibox.

After a phone call to Sky in Scotland she was told that only certain areas in Ireland and can receive Irish terrestrial TV on Sky and that Leitrim is not one of them!

Is this true or just a complete load of Sky?

ROFL! That was a hilarious thing from a Sky CSR to say! The person musta got confused with NI, though even NI can now get RTE and TG4 on a subscription.

The RTE's etc should work on Sky subscription, regardless of where you are in the country (including NI).

Does the Irish channels get listed on 101-104?

Does Sky One, UKTV Gold etc work?

Presuming the card has been activated (has it?), it may be just a matter of time before the Irish Channels activate.

For starters in can take 24 hours for the card to become active after ringing Sky to request activation.

What puzzles me is was it a Sky installer? I have never heard of a case where an installation has taken place without the card unless it a DIY installation.

The 4 Irish channels are part of the sky service for everyone in the ROI.

Depending on what package you have opted for they may not be included, check your order against the packages at http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/roi

The more likely explanation is that they have made an error and your card has been incorrectly programmed.

What is showing up as channel 101 to 104? Are the Irish channels there at all or is it BBC, ITV and Channel 4?

If the irish channels are there what happens when you try to view them?

Rockall is officially in Scotland so probably not

Mind you if you were to subscribe to Sky from there youd have to buy the box yourself since youd have a hell of a job convincng BT to give you a landline out there

..or Donegal, or the Faroe Islands, or Greenland, depending which territorial claim you accept. Its closest to Donegal.

That said, eircom or Foroyo Tele aren't going to sling you out a landline either.

Actually, that'd be a great way to solve the territorial claims - "provide phones to rockall and you get to keep it!"

Maybe, not sure. But Iceland should be nearly as good as Ireland.

The UN argued that no-one could claim Rockall as it is not inhabitable. Various persons have camped or attempted to camp on it.

I think Rockall needs a much bigger dish than Iceland. It is well over to left, possibly in the 2m range outside the standard footprint. But Gibralter is too, and they get 2D

According to Wikipedia the UK's claim to Rockall is no longer contested

Most of the past disputes about Rockall havent been about Rockall per se but fishery and oil/gas exploration rights around it
    Its closest to Donegal.
    424 kilometres from Donegal
461.5 km from the Scottish mainland but 301.4 km from St Kilda (Scottish)

Actually, that'd be a great way to solve the territorial claims - "provide phones to rockall and you get to keep it!"

    Or terrestrial TV coverage :D
