Were both 21 so to be honest were not goin for museums or galleries, were more interestin in places like zoos, waterworlds, beeches. scuba diving or basically just fun things to do:D ! Also any advice for bar nite clubs wud be great. Heard a lot about Ryans Bar, any other sugestions? Live music would be a bonus. Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

Ok, how can I put this? If that's the kind of holiday you are after, then Porto's not for you.

Ryans' bar is nothing special, it's your average dull "Oirish" bar with the odd Aussie accent floating about. Utterly devoid of atmosphere.

We found the residents of Porto to be a tad stand-offish, not rude, but not oozing friendship. To be honest, after the second unsuccesful night, we didn't bother trying to seek out any nightclubs/bars as there didn't appear to be many (this was during July).

Food wasn't great either, but prices were incredibly cheap. Down by the river is where all the "action", ahem, is. Plenty of places to eat and the odd bar or two.

We took the old bockety tram out to the coast - it was only a Euro or two and certainly worth the ride, but we didn't come across a decent beach in the vicinity of the city.

I know I am painting a glum picture of Porto, but if you are into nightlife/watersports/craic, then go somewhere else. If you are into culture, Port, architecture, the got to Porto.

Yeah, taxis are cheap, as is almost everything else.

You could try a train journey up to Viana do Castelo. It's about an hour and a half, and the town is much more of a holiday resort. You may get to do some watersports there.

Don't forget that most of the port places on the other side of the river offer free tastings. Taylors (free) is one of the best IMHO.

Search here for 'clubs' for more help :

Remember, it's a very poor country. Just ask your dad what Ireland was like in the early 70's and then you'll know what the north of Portugal is like. Great trains and moterways though (European money spent well).
