DVD Recorder with/without hard drive

Hi, I currently have a dvd recorder and I would record a couple of hours tv each day. It keeps sticking at 30 or 40 minutes into recording even when I try a new disk!!
Would it be better to purchase a DVD Recorder with hard drive and how do they work (does this mean everything I record goes to the hard drive and I no longer need disks to store recorded tv on)? Thanks!

But what do you do when the disk gets full? It's just hassle fi it's stuff you want to keep! I'd just get a new (better) DVD recorder without a HD. Personally, I use SKY+ (installed a 250GB drive) to back up stuff until I watch it, and then I burn to DVD for permanent backup if needed.

Well if he doesn't have sky+ then a dvd recorder with a hard drive would be the way to go , just as i did.

As Larry said for day to day stuff just record onto hard drive and stuff you want to keep you can just record that directly from hard drive onto dvd if you want.

I've yet to copy any tv directly onto dvd always onto hard drive first so i can edit out ads , trailers etc. first.

You say recordings start sticking 30/40 mins into recording , is the recorder by any chance in the middle of a stack of other equipment ? This used to happen to me and i found out that the disc spinning around was generating an enormous amount of heat , this coupled with heat generated from the other equipment above and below it caused any recordings to seize or stop after a while so i made sure that the area right over the disc was free and well ventilated.
