An idea - Would it work?

was Reading a Article by mike caro last night about tourneys and prizepools, that you have to win every chip in the tourney to win it but but only get a percentage of the prizepool..
had me thinkin! (Which is always a bad thing) Would a tourney that there is no prizepool set work say you buy in for 50 and you get a scalp chip in your stack your scalp is worth what you buy in so the only prize paid out is for all the scalps... This way your gettin rewarded for knockin players out and not people limpin into the money not playing a hand!
Am i Mad? More or likely yea!:confused::rolleyes::rolleyes:

No, it wouldn't work. An extreme example - lets say if I get involved against another player, and take all his chips bar 1 BB off him. Next hand you knock him out when he's all in on the BB. You get the money, I get nothing, yet I've done the "work".

It would be an interesting tournement, but you I think there would be a lot of luck involved, ie. to knock people out you have to have the right cards at the right time

So, if the winner only knocks out one player, he earns himself one shiney scalp?

I can't see a tournament such as this being very popular

it would be some craic to play it though

But the idea would be to get into good enogh shape to be able t stack a player so when he does push you can have him covered

Thats what i was sayin but to win a tourney you should knock out a couple off players on the way the concept is to knock out players an not limp into the final table for money

This is more like a cash game than a tournament. There is no incentive to come first, only to get scalps.

I think this would be fun.

Absolute insanity. Terrible idea , it would never work. all hell would break loose.

If you ever hear of a tounament like this being organised please let me know.
I would love to play in it.

So if you get poor cards all night but pick up lots of small pots by picking your spots and end up getting second, in theory you might not get a penny. This is something that might be a good gimmick for an online tournie, but would not attract too many people to play in a live tournament. The person who gets knocked out in 12th might get more money than the person who is last knocked out. It would certainly do away with long tense final table play anyhow, as the final table would only differ from the first by the number of chips in play, which would be less than the number of chips in play at the start relative to the BB.

You shouldn't read Mick, it'll get you in trouble.

what kind of blind structure would you use? how about a 3K starting stack and constant 100-200 blinds??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

Sounds like fun. I'll play it mick if you get it going.

Goodluck2me i like the idea off that 3k stack with a constant blind off 100-200 but if say 40 turn up thats 120K in play 5 or 6 handed with that ante will go on for a long time ill talk t luke about puttin it on say a sunday in 2 or 3 weeks if enough people be interested

Ye, of course that's the idea. I'm just saying it doesn't make any sense.
Like I said if I win 99% of someone's starting stack I get $0. But you get 1% and win $50!

So these 2 statements are valid for your game:
    .99x = 50 AND .01x = 0. :confused:

    No sense!
Probably would be fun to play alright, crazy fun!

sure if it was a once off it would get so many people into the club either to spectate or play they would surely fill a few extra cash tables, whatever the quietest night is play it then, maybe a thursday after the EOM game? Also i was thinking, how would re-buys work? it shoudlnt be a bad game either becasue if you knock one person out then you are least getting your stake back! and also think of all the possible reasons and motives people would have for raising and extra dimensions to the game there would be. if for eg i was in BB for 100 and was all in and someone raises and another re-riases and another re-raise they could have a monster or just want the scalp... i think it would be great craic to be honest, with horrible horribel outdraws!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,405 ✭✭✭Goodluck2me

also i cant see how it would go on all night either, sure nobody will be limping into the money, waiting for monsters at the final table, although id say people will in general be fairly tight, it should make for a great game.

Do you propose that you play to a certain number of players and then whoever has scalps get paid?

Or play to the last player - this would be exactly the same as a tourny where 1 player got paid, so I guess not..

Or if you knock a player out you get some cash and the scalp is gone. So if you were to knock out somone who had already knocked out 3 players you would only get the 1 scalp because you knocked only 1 person out yourself. So you could technically go out in 2nd place and get paid or you could come 2nd in the whold tourny and get nothing?

how about only allowing the final 5 (or 10 or whatever) to be paid. when a player is knocked out he loses ALL his scalps to the player who knocked him out. once its down to 5 (or 10 or whatever) pay everyone according to how many scalps they have.

it'd be a mental game, but it might be fun! I wouldnt make it too high of a buyin though, maybe 20 or 30 yoyos.

Interesting idea. I could use it in few tournaments where I was big stack and eliminated many players and then in the end lost heads up against short stack that was just surviving:-) On the other hand many crazy players that do not have a chance to get very far in MTT tournaments could be from time to time successful.

This might increase people folding into the money. If you had a decent amount of scalps early on you might just stay out of the way until you are in the last 5 or 10.

a better balance maybe would be €25 for each scalp and €25 to a prize pool for the final 5 or so depending on numbers

No this goes agenst the idea off it the whole purpose is no prize pool so theres no point limping into the money!!!

ok how does the 15th sound 40 + 5 no re-buy just freeze out a buy in would get to messy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 64 ✭✭monoP54

    I can see it now:
    Multitable cash game/tourney...
Have a start and finish time, one buy in only and only goal is to collect as many chips as poss by end time. Could have some formula for time limit with #players determining length of game. When time is called, cash in. Would not be without its probs of course.

Would play your uber-scalp game though Mick. Well, will try anything new.
