I was able last night, for some reason i can't now.

I use eircom for my mail in Outlook and I can send the mails ok on the web but not through Outlook. I can also receive the mails fine.

    Any ideas?

I assume you've cheaked all your account settings to make sure there the same as before. They can get highjacked and wiped.

Another thing it might be is if you where using a different mail server for outgoing mail, that server may have had it's name changed and you wouldn't have been made aware of it.

You really need to go in and check your account settings first of all.

Installed anything like antivirus software recently?

Nope, I haven't done anything lately that could upset it and the settings appear to be the same. When I click on Test account settings, it says congratulations, all tests completed successfully

Who do you have your dialup/broadband connection with?

    Digiweb.

    Outgoing server - smtp.digiweb.ie

You have the correct setting so. Could be a problem with digiwb smtp server at the mo. If you have any antivirus or firewall running, disable and try again. You could also try telnetting to smtp.digiweb.ie on port 25 and seeing if you can reach it ok.

Hmm..Could not open communication to the host, on port 25: connection failed.

Something blocking access to it so. I can telnet to it no problem so nothing wrong with the server.

Having you disabled firewall (including windows firewall)? Disabled anti virus? What firewall/anti virus do you have?

Well I haven't changed anything since yesterday so Im not sure what could be causing this. I have AVG and Norton. I disabled them both for a bit.

Has Norton been updated recently? This is quite a common problem I believe. The only workaround I can see if disabling the firewall when sending emails as has been mentioned. You could try disabling email scanning and see if that makes any difference(I think its in Options->Internet in Norton AV when you open NIS, not entirely sure as I chucked it a long time ago).

Turned on outlook this morning and received 15 mails...most that I was sending myself as a test yesterday so it appears to have fixed itself. Or Digiweb fixed it.

    Anyway, thanks for the help.
