Lasagne & Chips with big old glass o' milk or a big big plate of spag bol... with that glass of milk.

    Works every time.

Then again, if you mean a proper days drinking, (starting around 12.30pm), you need a proper full Irish with nearly half a slice pan of toast, and a few jugs o' strong dirty tae.

If you're going to be drinking for an entire day, perhaps it's worth considering foods that taste the same on the way up as they do on the way down, such as pineapple.

    Eating is cheating.

Why would you not want to eat during the day anyway?.
You can always pop over to Maccy D's or Dino's anyway for a heartattack in a bun.

ya the bananas and the pint of milk make sense alright. potassium and calcium, a deadly duo!

I'd agree with cork-langer to some extent.... why don't you just pop over and get a kebab when you're hungry, or somethin?

I wouldn't treat it any different than a normal day. Have your full irish around 9 or 10 before you head to the pub and take it from there. When I'm on a full day session I usually have a banger and mash around 3, goes down great and then if I feel like food later it's usually some meat between a bun I have!

any kind of protein dinner(protein cause it fills you up, i.e. steak, burgers, lovely dirty fry) and a pint of milk to line your stomach, to give you a bit of resistant before you rip the **** out of it(like we all do)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,534 ✭✭✭sioda

Any high carb food spuds rice pasta personally think spag bol is the best with garlic bread and pint of milk

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,673 ✭✭✭Miss Fluff

Bananas provide good slow release energy, full of potassium so they are good. Eggs are good too, lots of protein and some fruits in the form of a shake if you're not up for eating massive amounts before going out.

Makes such a difference preparing yourself before a session, makes it A LOT easier on one's body.

(Miss Fluff's note to self, kindly take on board some of the advice proffered by your good self on Boards.ie from time to time)

    Ditto :)

I just don't understand the logic in asking what to eat to line the stomach before he/she goes out & drinks themselves silly. Can't you just drink a bit less so that you don't get sick & as others have posted, eat when you're hungry??

And no I don't abstain from alcohol before anyone thinks that, I just don't understand people who go out drinking with the full intention of making themselves sick from it...no one enjoys hugging the toilet bowl all night :D

If you are really serious about this...

Fried steak & eggs for breakfast (no more food then until the little hand points to Abrakebabra).

And presuming that you are drinking Guinness - a brandy & peppermint cordial every 1.5 hours or so from the 3rd hour of drinking onwards. This refreshes the systems & staves off any acculmulating "wind/bloating issues" that may reduce consumption potential.

    Works a charm.

/Goes misty-eyed at thoughts of days such as these

    Full fry in the morning.
    Later lasanga with chips.
    Glass water/coke/milk every few pints.
    Sandwich/burger before bed.

This diet(?) will keep you on top of things :D

The OP made no mention of drinking in an effort to make themselves sick. In my opinion, they are being sensible by asking for advice on going on an all day session. This is not something that should be taken lightly & the OP (obviously a former Boy Scout) wants to be prepared.

    All:
If you want to do they Whole Day thing - I've had LOTS of practice over the years. In order for this sacred ritual to safely continue & not be abused by gobsh1te drinkers or lightweights - I offer you the following pearls of wisdom:

    1. Pick one drink that you are used to & stick to it for at least the first 2/3's of your session. (Exception here is the brandy & pep mentioned in earlier post).
    2. Pace yourself. A steady 20 minutes per pint for the first 3 hours. If someone in your company starts off by lashing them back - just stick to your own pace. You'll still be going hours after you've sent them home in a taxi.

    Be careful out there!

Actually the original OP (myself) is a student who is part taking in a competition to drink as much of one drink between 2 in the day and 2 at night. So, although not a former boy scout, I would like to be prepared. And yes... there is a prize!

A pint of water in between every 3-4 drinks, does wonders for ur drinking stamina and and the bananas do work. Lifeline tablets before you go out helps the hangover in the morning! :D

Was just expressing some thoughts on the subject at hand - all day drinking.

Being a lightweight drinker/cheap date whatever you want to call it :p , the thoughts of drinking all day (& its after effects) give me the willies (it ain't pretty :( )
    That's all!

Well now... you sort of left out some vital info there... this has to be approached from a different angle...

Take it easy the night before, get your 8 hours sleep.
Good hearty irish brekkie around 9:30.
13:30 before your session get in a good feed of steak and spuds... not too much that you are full.
Pick a drink and stick to it for the night, no mixing!
Slow and steady wins the race. Have a pint of water after every 4 or 5 pints.
... and by 2 am no one will remember what they drank so in the end there will be no winner.... but remember - it's the taking part that counts ;)

A few tablespoonfuls of olive oil taken before drinking can help to slow down the rate of alcohol absorption.

Any or a bit of all of: cereal, fruit, toast, pancakes together with a glass of orange juice, a cup of coffee and a glass of champagne (or sparkling wine).
If you're not going for drinks at breakfast then cut out the champagne (or sparkling wine).

<Off_Topic>miamee - I'm sure if you had a willy that it would be very pretty. :p </Off_Topic>

OP - As I said before, pace yourself. This will be key to your success. Also, give some thought to choosing a drink that makes you pee often. Bulmers does it for me. It has me slashing like a brewer's horse. Cleans the pipes & allows me to get through gallons of it. BTW - What's the prize?

I knew that'd come back to haunt me, I was tired & I couldn't think of another word for it :p

OP - apart from the prize will you get your drinks bought for ya? :D

or a big breakfast of a fry and toast

no buy our own drinks. miller all the way baby! cant touch cider. the prize is a trophy with the proud and very sick winner's name etched in!

I would suggest drinking pint bottles of bulmers with ice. I dont normally drink that myself but i do if its an all dayer. It's like drinking 1/4 pint of water for every pint you drink. I also would advise against a fry. Have a good healthy obriens sandwich and then get some food in the pub later in the evening.

Its complex carbohydrates rather than proteins that can help surpress hunger... so bananas are a good source of those. you get enough protein from a raw egg to do you for the day during times when you're at optimum health and vitality. filling yourself with protein rich foods before a binge wouldn't be the best idea as it wuld put additional strain on you hepatic metabolism as all that protein would have to be deaminated in the liver, and the breakdown products converted to glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis, all while your liver is tackling the problem of detoxifying the alcohol you're consuming.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 489 ✭✭derek27

My soundest advice would be not to go binging for an entire day in the first place, but as i frequently do it myself i may aswell blowing air out of my hole. With regard to the best food i'd suggest the following: a good full irish breakfast with a few slices of very well done toast (as black as you can bear really)... here's why... the high fat content of a typical irish breakfast, (while that in itself too frequently represents a significant health threat), can act as a depot for alcohol in the body allowing it to be more smoothly distributed to the liver and therein metabolised. the toast... the burnt bred is simply analogous to activated charcoal which can adsorb toxic metabolites of the alcohol allowing them to be excreted better. in fact, it is activated charcoal which is frequently indicated in overdose patients upon admission to A&E, depending on the nature of the compounds ingested.
