Is it just me or has everyone and their uncle gone out and bought these POS doorstops?

I'm sick of people asking me why their brand new laptop is slow/wont play DVDs properly etc etc.

And as for that Dell network assistant malware that they borked XP's wireless networking utility for..

Bit silly to be honest. There is nothing wrong with Dell Inspirons with Celeron processors. Dvds play on a 500mhz machine fine let alone a 1.5 or 1.6Ghz Celeron M.

Now, Dells software, thats another matter. The software often, in fact most times, is very poor and everyone is advised to uninstall it as soon as they get any particular dell laptop. But that said, alot of other brands come with the same trash so it's not solely DELL. I had a Sony Vaio that was crippled worse on initial startup then any Dell I've ever encountered.

What this has got to do with Celeron processors though is beyond me....

Send them to me, I'll reconfigure their machines so they work fine. For a price.

What Havok said, also with Dells, you get what you pay for really. This post doesn't seem to have a whole lot about Celly processors. :)

The laptops themselves are indeed fine, just the buckets of horsesh1te that come as standard nowadays (google desktop for example amongst others).
A fresh wipe and reinstall or the long winded uninstalling of all the crap and their generally back in good shape...
Oh yea whats with the 2 partitions now!? Just because they give you sh1tty norton ghost 10 they split your drive in two...for backup...I wouldn't mind if there was a second hard drive but backing stuff up to the same drive as the source is a ridiculous idea...

Having an OS on one partiton and data on another can be handy. It means you can reformat the OS, reinstall and not effect the data. Of course you should configure your my doc and email clients to use the data partition etc.

I'm thinking more of the hard drive dying type scenerio...but I see your point for the general home user...still I think its beyond joe public's grasp to even use norton ghost nevermind know what it does...

Do PC's ship with Ghost these days? Norton Security Virus yes but I've not seen Ghost preinstalled.

But they do...at least now anyways...only seen it on their new laptops recently along with the hard drive split into 2 partitions of equal size...just not too sure about the desktop situation but I will find out soon enough as we have one on order.

Its in the list for that uninstall app. I bought a couple of Dells recently and they only had a C: Parition and No Ghost. But it might be different on different machines. My Sony is split though.

A Celeron-M and Pentium-M are actually pretty close together in performance. The big difference is in the power saving options, which Celeron-M's are lacking.

Well one of the Dells I got was a Celeron M and I was surprised how bad the battery life was. The other one is a Dual Core and even though its got a large 9 cell battery the battery life is very impressive.

Yeah, the newer Celerons don't really have much in common with the older ones other then the name. I think they should have renamed it to be honest - alot of people ignorantly and without any real basis associate Celeron with poor performance, even for basic tasks like Word and Net Browsing! Sad but true. I know someone who bought a Pc for the usual watching DVDs, browsing the Internet, etc. No games, no heavy media applications. They refused to get a Celeron 2.4ghz based machine because "its way too slow"
