Lovely bokeh and shot, but I'd much prefer if the depth of field was that bit wider! Just to get the blade of grass in there a teeny bit more!

It is a loverly shot and as Fajitas! mentioned, it is a pity you didn't get a bit more. Nicely done though.

The dof was intentional actually lads.i was trying just to get the droplet in focus tbh.I had to lie on my belly on the path in the park and take about 20 shots, lol.

nice shot, looks very sharp around the drop anyway. Worked as intended. How about a tighter crop though?

Yeah rymus,i really struggled witht he crop on this one and what i settled for was not really doing it for me tbh, but it was the best of the bad bunch so to speak.I do usually like to go in closer on things.

Thats a cool shot - I prefer the dof that way rather than any wider - it really makes that drop stand out all the more.

I really like the shot as is, I'd usually go for the more predictable wider dof.

I thought this would look cool, give it a kinda 'there's another world in there' kinda look..

    Hi Conor,

What lens was used? I'm going to go against the grain of the comments in general and say that I don't particularly like the bokeh effects on this one, although the shot is lovley in all other respects.

I don't care for the circular effects on the out-of-focus light-points, that kind of ring of light. I've seen similar shots where the points of light in the background are softer... these rings stand out too much and bring the background into the fore. I've read this is down to the lens used, and it's optical characteristics, but I'm no authority...

Really just thought it would be interesting to point out something negative amongst the tide of praise washing over this one. It's a very fine shot, the line of the grass divides the shot into lovely proportions, focus is so sharp etc... I just don't like the bokeh

Lovely shot. The focusing is phenomenal!
    One question, whats a bokeh?

I've been googling my way around this photography lark for a while, and 'Bokeh' appears to be a Japanese term for the effect seen in Conor's shot, with the points of light out of focus etc

    Wiki!

Bokeh is just the out of focus background to any shot. The more out of focus ,the better the " Bokeh" ! Anyway,to answer your question beans,i have only one lens, the kit lens that came with my 20d(18-55mm).It isn't great but I've gotten some nice shots with it.Everything on my Flickr stream has been taken with it.

Ah, bokeh is more than being out of focus!

Bokeh is how the light forms when out of focus! Circles, and shapes caused by the aperture of the lens.

I'm actually shocked to see that that was taken with the kit lens though! Well done!

So kit lenses are well capable of taking fabulous shots. No more excuses allowed from anyone ;)

Really great shot Conor, all the points have been made already about it, but I just want to add that I think its beautifully 'sparkly' and very eye-catching. I also love this one from your flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/conmike12/247407765/ and I agree I cannot believe you took this with your kit lens. Just as I was thinking of giving mine away... hmmm might think again. Anyway great work
