Microphone Problems - Input Monitor

    Hi all,

Can anyone explain to me whats going on with my microphone setup?

I use one of the creative software packages and theres a button called input monitor that seems to be activating itself from time to time. It dosnt effect my headset but it shuts out the microphone. (built into the headset).

The slider for the input monitor is always greyed out so its basically an on/off button.

If I turn off the microphone boost option, nobody can hear me, yet if I turn it on, I can hear the most annoying hissing in the background all of the time.

Can anyone explain whats going on with it all? Ideally Im after a mic I can use without any hiss in the background.

Its an XP machine with sennheiser headphones in case thats any use. Here's the screenshot. Thanks a lot!
