    Hi all,

Had the benefit of a fairly decent sunset on Friday night, so took the opportunity to take myself, camera, and dog down to Kilfarassy beach, some results here.

They're all HDRs to balance sky/foreground, either bracketed or developed twice, and merged in PS using layer masks. Any feedback appreciated:

Ah Kilfarassy lovely spot for sunset shooting. I must get a slide scanner!

The first is a bit weak in terms of composition. the second needs more space above the main rock (its a bit tight to my eyes). The third is exellent getting the detail in both the rock and the sky is good work.

    Mike.

    Excellent shots.

    Gotta love our coastline!

Just noticed...everyone from Waterford on here seems to be into photography...coincidence...or just the photography forum :p

Waterford is a photogenic county. Sea, city, mountains.

They're all very good results for HDR. I especially like the third one.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Mike65, re the 2nd, you do have a point. I played with the cropping on that one for a while, and I'm not sure I ended up satisfied. I toyed with cropping out some of the underexposed rock on the right, but preserving the aspect ratio would have made the top even more cramped.

Waterford is indeed a rather photogenic county, and this coming from somebody who grew up in Donegal!

I dont like the middle one. Dont ask me why, its something to do with the colour, the flatness of the colour or something. It just doesnt work for me.

I feel comfortable criticising that because OMG the rest of your stuff utterly rocks. I looked through your flickr set and it blew me away. I don't have the technical knowledge to criticise your dohickey setting or the discombobulation of the third lateral coupling on your post-lens.. but your pictures totally own! :)

    DeV.

I'd agree with the above re the second one, the third one is the strongest one compositionally. I think the rock pool forms the perfect lead in lines to draw the eye to the sunset coulours.
The one major criticism I could label on any shot that comes out of Kilfarassy though is that none of them have the Nudy Man in them. You can be excused as you grew up in Donegal. But if you're form Waterford and you don't know who the Nudy Man is then, well then you're just not from Waterford!
Congrats on the shots, very well done.

Ok - I dont have a clue what any of that mean ........ but here is what I do know ....... I really like all of them:D I think that the 3rd one is the strongest but they all have something going for them.

    Thanks for sharing

Googling for that produced the expected result, and I'd guess non of the few links returned had much chance of having a seagull in them!

Very nice work. And there is some excellent stuff as well on your flickr account.

I've gotta get around to doing some HDR one of these days. Echoing Rymus, care to share your technique?

    John

Apart from them being pretty damn good landscapes there's not much to say on that - but I'm particularly impressed with the blending of the exposures. It's impossible to tell, you've none of those annoying halos that plague my efforts, and they don't look artificial at all. That's pretty skillful.

There all great shots! I cant decide which is my favoutire though maybe the second or the third one!

    Well done :D

Wow, I'm blushing here with all this praise, having been offline for a few days. Thanks for all the kinid comments.

Regarding requests for the HDR technique, I'll be more than happy to do it, but bear with me a bit as I'm running around like a headless chicken this week, and a bit lacking in net access

I like them all, but #3 is especially awesome. I'm a big fan of HDR when its handled right and its always good to see it used as such.
