Wireless routers and high speed lines

Ok, sorry for the extremely stupid question, but my sister is getting broadband connection into her house. if she goes with a high speed package (4Mb) she gets a free wireless router (which she needs)
Her question is; is it worth paying the extra money for the high speed package or will using a wireless router severely diminish the speed?
    cheers in advance.

Unless she needs the extra speed she'd probably save money by going for a cheaper package (lower speed) and buying her own wireless router. Prices for a decent router range from €50 to €70.

Who is she getting her broadband from? This will help us give advice on what router to buy.

And using a wireless router will not degrade your connection.

the minimum speed of wireless at the moment is 11Mbps so with a 4Mbps connection there will be no problem with reduction in speed. the wireless router she gets will probably be a 54Mbps if it is anyway recent so she should have no worries for a good few years if eircon have their way.

ah excellent cheers guys. Yeah i said to her she'd be better off going for a cheaper package and buying a router seperately, but i guess this has more convenience.

She's in the UK so its with virgin.net.
so for about 25euro a month she gets speeds "up to" 8Mbs and upload speads "up to" 512Kbs.
Download allowance of 6Gig. no mention of contention ratio. i suppose its not bad value for what she gets.

anyway thanks for your help everyone!
