County Clare, Ireland, Sept 19th 2006 – The first phase of a recruitment campaign for over 100 staff at the new Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience site in County Clare will get underway later this month, it was announced today (Tuesday Sept 19th). The campaign will initially focus on filling permanent and peak season positions including Maintenance Operatives, Rangers, and Customer Service and Administration staff. Cliffs of Moher Centre Ltd. will place recruitment notices in the local and national print media this week while an open evening will be held in the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon, County Clare on Wednesday September 27th from 4-8pm.

According to Katherine Webster, Director of the Cliffs of Moher New Visitor Experience, “One of the main elements of the recruitment campaign is a localised direct marketing programme whereby people from county Clare are given every opportunity to become part of the Cliffs of Moher workforce. It is only right that local people directly benefit from the EUR 31.5 million Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience - one of the biggest projects of its kind to be developed in the county.”

Ms. Webster added, “The creation of over 100 jobs at the world famous site is excellent news not only for north Clare, but for the entire county. The new positions will also complement the site’s improved visitor facilities, which are nearing completion and are due to open in early 2007. The opening of the visitor centre building and external facilities will also be complemented by the introduction of a new approach to visitor management at the location. These developments will see the Cliffs of Moher become the flagship of Irish tourism.”

The Mayor of Clare, Cllr. Flan Garvey has welcomed the start of the recruitment process and the boost that the entire development has given to the North Clare area. “The construction phase of the Cliffs of Moher New Visitor Experience project has given a very significant boost to the local area and it is good to see long-term permanent employment being provided at the site. The employment opportunities being created at the Cliffs of Moher are similar to the establishing of a major industry in county Clare. Tourism is a very important economic sector for the county and I have no doubt that the Cliffs of Moher project will be a huge success in providing direct employment. There are also likely to be very significant spin-off benefits for tourism providers and other businesses in the county”, Mayor Garvey stated.

Clare County Council anticipates that over one million people will visit the Cliffs of Moher New Visitor Experience in 2007. External facilities at the Cliffs of Moher will include coach drop off and pick up points, bicycle parking, a picnic area, six craft worker units for local traders and a large paved concourse at the building entrance with seating. The development will also include elevated viewing areas, landscaping, new pathways and a ranger service, which is expected to greatly enhance the visitor experience at one of Ireland’s most significant and popular tourist locations. A new car park across the road from the site is in place and the temporary visitor facilities have been erected. Access for visitors to view the Cliffs is being afforded on an alternative pathway during the construction period.

Meanwhile, Cliffs of Moher Centre Ltd. will hold a recruitment open evening at the Woodlands Suite in the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon, County Clare on Wednesday September 27th from 4-8pm. A short presentation will take place at 4.30pm, 6pm and 7pm while an Information pack containing application forms will be made available to those in attendance. All job seekers interested in employment opportunities at the Cliffs of Moher are invited to attend.
