    Hello

I own an ASUS k8ne deluxe mo board

The BIOS doesnt load so all I get is a blank screen

One thing I noticed is that my dvd burner drive doesnt power up

I removed all the RAM and there were no beeps

I tried a CMOS clear but that didnt do anything

The diagnostics light on the mo board still work though

    any help or suggestions
    thanks

Do the diagnostic lights tell you anything? They blinking or something? You can check what they say by looking up the manual. Might be a clue. Otherwise I'd not hold much hope.

no it doesnt blink its just lit up as usual

I bought it from overlockers a while back

would you say I could get an exchange

I'm afraid I don't know much about these things, I've always had laptops and never had any interest in overclocking PCs. What I do know I've picked up from the internet of magazines, but it's a little stale by now!

In the older days, there were little switches or jumpers on motherboard with which you could adjust the cpu voltage, motherboard clock speed and things to squeeze more juice out of your setup. But now isn't all that done via the BIOS?

If it was an older type board, you could try turning down the voltage & speed to see if anything changes. Maybe the CPU you're using is fried, but I doubt it as the BIOS would be able to tell you.

I think if you can get your money back, go for it.

im trying to get it fixed I doubt I will get money back
If i am lucky I'll get a replacement
Note that my dvd burner is not powering up but everything else is
like the hard drive, fans, graphics card

    I dont get it

has anyone else had this problem fixed?

Idea: is your power supply okay? If there isn't enough power to get your DVD drive working, maybe there's not enough getting to the motherboard?

power supply works on another pc

I have checked the dvd burner on another pc and it works fine

    could it be the processor

if it was the processor i would guess that your dvd burner would power up then. Sounds like its the mobo to me man :( although, that would be one of the cheaper things in the pc compared to processor/gfx card. :p

I know u already ruled out your PSU but did u try using differt power cables for the dvd drive?

have you tried powering up without the dvd drive plugged in?
Ocassionaly a faulty dvd/cd drive will stop the boot process and do exactly as you say (all seems fine just no picture).

Booting up with no ram inserted (none at all i mean) should beep or give an error of some kind (you sure your pc speaker is attached and functional?). Some boards dont beep but giv a visual error code. Manuals only usually have a few basic codes so you'd need to go to their site/email them for more detailed answers.

Dunno if this helps at all. Good luck tho, such a pain when a machine dies for no visible reason.

OP, Your PSU could still be at fault, if your DVD drive is not powering up at all, and your PSU still works in another PC your PSU may not be powerful enough to run all the hardware in your system, just something to bear in mind. Best thing to do is illiminate your board as the suspect first.

Disconnect EVERYTHING from the motherboard. Then reconnect the Power Cable, the speaker, power light and HDD light. Try powering up, if your PSU starts fine, turn it off and connect the power cable to the DVD drive. Try again, if your DVD drive powers up then its likly that the PSU is at fault anyway, but not the less you continue on. Install the CPU, RAM and Video Card ONLY. Try booting again and see if you get the BIOS screen to come up. If you are successful this time, then its your PSU, if not, its either your RAM, Videocard or Processor. Your motherboard will beep or flash a sequence of LEDs to indicate which is at fault. If any of these three are faulty the BIOS cannot start.

I just boxed up the mother board to be tested

I think it is the motherboard because when I removed the ram

there were no beeps so I assume that the motherboard is the problem

If your DVD drive wont power up its the PSU's fault!

I regularly just connect the molex to a temp optical drive to search for any discs inside it without ever connecting it to the mobo.

If you give the PC a keyboard error(hold down a few keys) on boot it should send you straight into the BIOS.
