Cork Hurling manager John Allen announced this morning he would not be continuing in his position.

This was expected for many, but Allen himself said that it was impacting on his private life, and that he wasn't sure he could dedicate all this time again to the side.

Big loss. Interesting to see who will step into the breach. Both Allen, and O Grady before him, were top class managers, so there are big shoes to be filled.

Bloody Hell. Still it's hard to keep going after Missing out on the Three in a row.

Have any of the hurlers announced their Retirement yet?

Hopefully Corcoran, O'Suillivan and O'Hailpin(Not a hope, this guy will probably hurl until he's 100) announce theirs Might give Galway half a chance next year then :p

I think we need more than that to happen if we are to win an all-ireland next year. ;)

Allen's decision is not that unexpected - you could guess by his body language etc. in interviews after the final that he didn't have the heart for it. He had done an awful lot with this current bucnh of Cork players, but maybe he sees this team coming to an end.

He only lost one championship game in 2 years and came within a puck of a ball of landing the three-in-a-row. It will be very difficult for Cork to replace Allen - they replaced O'Grady with one of his selectors and it worked a treat but if the Cork county board do this again it may not pay off as well. I say this because the style of hurling Cork play would take a lot out of players i.e. constantly running instead of hitting the ball and they just be worn out. After all they have reached 4 All-Ireland's in a row, won 2 of them and lost the other 2 by just a goal.
