I posted a while back about my Sigma 70/200 2.8 needing repair.Quite a few recommended that place at porto bellow, but I ended up going to Cons,I was in town and it was handy:rolleyes: Well they sent it porto bellow and they qouted me 280 quid. I agreed and 4/5 weeks later I phoned and was told it wasn't done. I was going on holidays that week and cons said they would definatly have it for me. I went in the day before my hols to collect and one of the guys stuck it on a camera and took a few shots. It's grand ,he said, want to try. I did and it was as bad as when I left it in, even though they said they had replaced a motor in it, nothing had changed. In all fairness Cons were apologetic and offered a loaner for the hols, which i didn't take. The problem with the lens was that it wouldn't focus if an object was totally out of focus, but it would if the object was just within the range. If you didn't know that it was broken and focused at infinity you probably wouldn't notice, which is what i think they did. To add insult to injury the guy in Cons said he would send it bacK to Sigma, he obviously didn't know that I knew it was just going up the road.So that was 2 weeks ago and tbh I dont have much faith in cons or that place in rathmines (i left a mamiya in there years ago and it took six months to fix)So do you think I would be in my rights to just get the lens back if it's not fixed this week as promised and live with a manual lens. I gave them a 50 quid deposit which I'm not really bothered about, not to the point of arguing anyway. To my mind if they replaced a motor that probably didn't need replacing and then tested a lens and passed it as fixed, their not really up to the job. I should have taken it two weeks ago,but was in a rush.

I've had a similar experience with the same lens. Left in for repair in Ireland and no-one could repair it. Luckily they held their hands up and said they couldn't repair so no cost but I'm not sure how conn's do business.

For reference I would recommend Fixation (http://fixationuk.com/) in London. Very good company to deal with and you might even be able to arrange to send it over to them. They fixed my lens over a weekend while I was there.

    Good luck with it.

I had a sigma repaired under guarantee ,sigma had the cheek to say they couldn't find anything wrong with the lens .But it was fixed when I got it back.

Thinking about that ,they probably say that to everyone regardless of whether they think they fixed a lens or not.
Don't accept the lens if it's not fixed ,you were quoted for the repair.

That's the place just at the back of Portebello College?

I left an old (50s!) SLR in for repair. Took months, which didn't bother me too much. What really bothered me was each time when it was to be ready I would call over, only to be told something else to be done etc.. Finally got it back, in better condition than before admittely, but focus on mirror way off. Had enough at that stage so didn't bother going back again.
