This is a deadly little game. Won't work on my laptop but works on my pc!

The demo allows you to pick between 2 characters, a french dude and a belgian dude (they could be world champions but I never heard of them). You can play against another player sharing the keyboard or against the computer. Unfortunetly the default setting for the keys are suited for a french style keyboard, with z,x,q,s making up the w,a,s,d triangle of our keyboards. I didn't discover how to change this arrangement.

Anyway, you can move your character around and try to tire out your opponent, to attempt throws you press sequences of keys, there is a key for gripping the belt, sweeping with your feet or pulling the lapel/sleeve of your opponent. THe success of your throw attempt relies on the sequence and precision in which you press these 3 keys and your oppoents ability to counter. It actually tells you when and which keys (an option you can turn off) to push.

Once you get into the swing of things, It's actually a lot of fun. The demo only allows exhibtions matches which are matches of best of 3 rounds with lengths or either 3 or 5 mins. Because the nature of the sport, throwing ippons is very difficult at the beginning when your opponent is not tired. Scores work on two things, skill and tiredness of your opponent. So If u press the keys with great precision but your opponent is not tired at all, you'll probably only get a koka (lowest score). But when he's tired you can get the wazari's and ippons. So at the beginning it's really a war of attrition trying to wear your opponent out with throws. I'm not actually sure if making more throws tires you or your opponent. The nature of the sport makes early kokas and yokos pointless, you could have 20 kokas but all your opponent needs is 1 wazari to beat you.

It would be better playing multiplayer but the game appears to lack one vital thing - NO NE WAZA - NO GROUNDFIGHTING - or at least not that I'm aware of. The moves are technically correct and it looks good. Probably get boring after a while.

Yeah, it shows the controls if you go into options.. Its like the second thing you can select in options for the keyboard controls..

It's a really good game. There is actually newaza. I tapped a guy out with a gi choke from rear mount.. I also got tapped with a flying armbar 0.o

Bit of practice and it's really fun to play. I'll definately get the full version.

For anyone with problems with the controls..

    W
    A D
    S

They are your controls to walk around. The numbr pad on the right, 741 etc can be used for your moves.. As you step or move, you'll see what options you have. 7 is hand, 4 is belt and 1 is feet.. each move usually requires a combination that you need to time..

For example, if I walk backwards, I can hit 1 to begin my throw, then time 1 again when the foot flashes up, and then to finish the throw I can use 7 (the hand).. You won't nail it everytime, takes a bit of practice. I suggest you practice with that one, it's easiest to get.

Also, there are counters.. Let's say I take a step forward and the CPU begins to throw me, you'll see the hand flash up (7) which if I time right, I can counter with.. Sometimes counters can be a string of things.

All n all, just pay attention to that little scrollbar on the left for you that shows the hands(7), feet(4) and belt(1).. That's what you need to corrospond with in order to throw.

remember, like real judo, even with a slight shift or movement, your options can totally change.. So you might see the option for a foot sweep (1) for a second, but suddenly as you take another step, there could be a different option.. The game engine is pretty realitistic in that sense if you've taken judo before.

Anywho, great game so far - I'm going to buy the full version.
