    Hey all,
Moved into a new apartment in Harcourt Square. Now, the apartment already has an NTL box on the ball and the previous tenant had NTL.

Now, NTL is really our only choice in terms of tv and broadband. And it should be easy enough shouldn't it?

I just made call NINE. And that's the ninth call I've made where I've spoken to someone. The rest of the time I'm just on hold forever. When I do get someone they either

    A) Tell me that apartment isn't wired for cable and transfer me to 'new developments'. Which invariably means cutting me off
    or
    B) Tell me to hold while they check that address.... and then I get cut off.

What is going on  I've always had sky digital and never was treated like this ever.

I can't even bloody well see how much NTL packages are from their crock of ****e website.

    This is retarded.

Basically NTL Ireland has been bought by UPC, who also own Chorus.

UPC in their infinite wisdom has decided to fire all the NTL call center staff and use the Chorus staff instead. The NTL staff have been told and unsurprisingly they aren't working very hard at the moment as they are gone next month.

So don't expect to get any service from them at the moment.

There was a large callcentre in Waterford alright, wonder if they will sell the building or just staff it with people from Chorus? Or will the just keep the chorus callcentres for the whole of the country? Who knows.
Not looking good for UPC so far with them sacking a load of (usually) decent staff that they could just as easily kept on.

OP, you should really consider getting Sky anyway, there are ways around the silly "no-dish" rules and Sky while probably more expensive will certainly give you better choice then NTL/UPC does at the moment, you will get all the british channels (except Channel4 and five) on Sky too. Not as good, though certainly the next best thing to NTL broadband is BT Broadband (cheaper then eircon and a generally better service).

 Thanks for the advice guys. Oh crap. My only dealings with Chorus was at home in my folks place 12 years ago and I said never never again.

How can one get around the no-dish rules? I saw Sky offering to put a dish on the roof to service multiple apartments but our management company specifically poo-poos that idea.

As for Sky digital - technically, it is far superior. The programme guide actually works. It is faster to flick and change channels. You get far more channels as standard.

BUT most of them are rubbish. And the loss of Channel 4 is a total disaster.

And I just found out that NTL don't do broadband in our area (off bloody Harcourt st - I ask you  ). So now I've got to mess with phonelines, BT, Smart etc.

Take a look at this thread, regards management companies and their no-dish policy. IIRC, no one can ban you from having a sattelite dish, if they dont allow you to have one of your own then they have to provide a communal dish for everyone. Personally, I am of the opinion that NTL is just paying off these management groups to ban sat dishes, specifically because NTL are well aware of their sh1te offerings and that Sky quite simply offers better value. You can get Channel4 on Sky if you can get a UK ex-sub or FTV Sky card, this will give you Channel4, five and probably one or two other FTV UK channels.

If I had any other choice I wouldn't have NTL.
