Aaron Sorkins new show starts tonight in the states - here are some of the reviews....

Seeing as it is not due to screen until tonight, it is, ahem, impossible for me to have seen this programme. Assuming I had seen it I would say ..

.. although Aaron Sorkin was responsible for the West Wing when it was good, that context created the opportunity for discussion or even polemic on a range of public policy and societal issues.

The context of Studio 60 is television in particular and the entertainment industry is general, so the focus is more narrow.

The character played by Judd Hirsch makes a good soapbox speech. Matthew Perry is consigned to Chander Bing-like characterisation. Bradley Whitford is still Josh and it'll take time for that to work it's way through. The rest of the characters are being painted in broad brush strokes.

The production qualities are high, the dialogue is so far so good. I can't see this one running to 7 series like the West Wing.

Channel 4 and More4 have it slated for next year, but I thought TV3 had it lined up for either an Autumn or Winter 06 showing?

Its not getting huge numbers in the states (despite critical acclaim).
I hope its not canned - its pretty enjoyable....

I'm not digging the show-within-a-show aspect, seeing as how AS can't really do straight (as it were) comedy which appears to be what this Studio 60 show is all about. The rest is okay, except that it's basically Josh & Chandler In The Dark v2.0

I have to say I've found it quite good to watch myself. Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford seem to play off against each other quite well. Plus Amanda Peet and Ayda Field add to the viewing experience :D
