call alert while surfing

    Have tied two progs: call411 and call alert but cannot get them working.
    Anyone know of one that works?

    Do you mean 'alert you to the fact that soneone is trying to dial your number, while you're using dial-up internet access'? Do you have a supported modem?

    I'm not sure that Irish carriers support this functionality..

    Yes.
    Have a flat rate 180hr. package from utv which other,non-surfing members of the household are not happy about.They believe they are missing calls.
    Anyone else the same problem?
    Do you mean a v92 modem?

    I used to have something like that years ago, on a windows 98 machine if memory serves correctly. Worked a treat. Can't remember what it was now though

    Yes, if you have v90/v92, you should have the required functionality in your modem. I think the service that the ISP needs to support is called Modem on hold (MOH). UTV seems to support MOH, but you may want to check their suggestions here:

    Modems price reasonable on ebay.
    Wondering now will I need call waiting.
    Don't like paying extra standing charges.

    Mightn't be the modem anyway.. Don't waste your money if you don't have to.
    Borrow someone else V92 modem and see if it works first...
