i'm not 100% sure this is the right forum but here we go:

did anyone hear about what happened to the british ambassador to uzbekistan?

i heard him interviewed on today FM. this is basically what he said: uzbekistan is an ally in the "war on terror". they regularly torture people and provide the information they obtain to the americans and the british. on a completely separate matter they receive half a billion dollars a year from the americans.

the ambassador sent a communication to the english govt saying that the information they were getting was unreliable and the uzbek govt either knew it was or purposely gave incorrect information (can't remember which). he also said the information was got through torture.

this was the basic thrust of the reply from the govt: "we know. now shut up"

but he didn't shut up. the govt insisted to him that it wasn't illegal to get the torture info because they weren't doing the torturing. after a year or so they tried to make him resign. he refused

then they said that he gave visas for sexual favours, that he was having affairs, that he embezzled money etc etc etc and made him quit eventually.

anyone heard about this? any opinions?

During an interview with Alex Jones on August 21, 2006, regarding torture and the 2006 transatlantic aircraft plot, he claimed that false intelligence on al-Qaeda plots was obtained through torture done by CIA proxies and that the intelligence gained is used as a propaganda tool.[1]
