I need to take screeshots of sections of my powerpoint, dump it into paint to chop out the bit I need, and then paste into word.

However, when I have it in word I seem to loose alot of the original quality from powerpoint.

I know this for a fact because the person who owned the document before me has these powerpoint sections pasted into the word document at a much higher quality. It is very obvious looking at the printed doc.

How do I paste at a higher quality? What am I missing? Currently I am just ctrl-x, ctrl-v'ing.

    Thanks.

Assuming when you paste it into Paint it looks ok? Prehaps change the file format you save it as?

The thing is, I am not actually saving it in paint.

The only reason I first of all paste into paint is so that I can use the tool in there to allow me select a smaller area to cut out and drop into the word doc.

Well try saving it in paint, the insert a picture from file and select the saved image. See if that is any different.

Ok thanks, I'll give it a go later this evening when I have some time.

I'm not sure but I think the TIFF format is the highest quality in the image format. Try editing it the way you want it in paint first, then saving as a TIFF file and then Insert into MS Word. It might be a longer way around it but see what difference you get.

i use a util called Snag It for that sort of work ... gives you great control over the quality of the section you are cropping, be it full screen, or a section of the screen.

it has options for how snagged images appear in MS Word, and gives you a choice of what format your images are snagged in (GIF,JPG,TIF etc).

I find TIF is best for quality, GIF is best for black & white / line drawings, PNG is best for small scale pic, JPG is multi-purpose ... as a format BMP has some drawbacks, notably quality and file size.

Can you not cut out all the unwanted parts of the image in powerpoint using the "crop" tool on the picture toolbar.
When you have the image you require copy and paste into word.

I've tried all of the suggestions... still no joy. Loosing quality when I drag the image to resize when in word :(

    any other ideas?

maybe bring the image into a graphics app like paint shop and resize it there, maintaing the aspect ratio, rather than dragging the image in word ...

when you say the image is losing quality ... can you post an example ?

Crisis averted - I just dragged the Powerpoint slide directly into Word and the quality stays the same.. so I am happy.

    Thanks all.
