Hey. I hope some of you might be able to help me on these questions? I'm currently looking into buying a new desktop for at home. It'll be used by my family so it doesn't need to be too powerful, just for music, light gaming, internet and the usual home messing. What do people think of these specs:

    AMD Sempron Processor 3400+
Microsoft Operating System Genuine Windows XP Home Edition
    Memory 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz [2x512MB] Memory
Monitor Dell™ 17" Value Flat Panel
Video Card Integrated NVIDIA® GeForce 6150 LE graphics
Hard Drive 160GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst cache
    CD/DVD Drives 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
Sound Cards Integrated 7.1 Channel High Definition Audio

    Price: €725 from Dell

    Two main questions:
Should i go for the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ for an extra €24 or the AMD Athlon 64 3800+ for €48 extra?
Should i go for the 128MB ATI Radeon X1300 PCI Express graphics card for an extra €72 or the 256MB ATI Radeon® X1300 Pro PCI Express graphics card for extra €108?

Any other comments on that setup?

    1) I would go for the AMD Athlon 64 3800+ for an extra €48 as it will surve you good in the future as you wont have to upgrade for longer.

    2) I would advise you to upgrade from the onboard graphics card if you or your kids want to play any decent PC games! Nearly every game will run on a 128-bit card but most games run much better on the 256-bit cards!

    Your call.

Dell sell PC's for the mass market so any modifications to their main product line cost €€€.

Stay with integrated graphics as said already and if more powerfull graphics capabilities are required then look here:

Thats a €31 saving or €19 when shipping is taken into account!

This is the X1300's bigger brother:
    http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=318275
and still comes in cheaper even with S&H added than the upgrade Dell offer!

The GeForce 6150 LE graphics is perfectly fine for "light gaming" on low setting.
Dell are also notorious for the RAM prices but their Displays are some of the best around.
