MY incoherrent rant on Shannon - apologies: but this is what I meant!

(In a nutshell I was jet-lagged, drunk and angry)

I booked DUB-BOS BOS-DUB. The itinerary printed indicated a stop-off in shannon. This was a change of aircraft. Fair enough. I booked in good-faith (not having done my sums) that this was direct to Dublin on the return.

I was irate when we stopped in Shannon with no warning of this in the itinerary (believe me fine print holds no weight here whatsoever, when you hear my argument).

There are plenty of Americans who will gladly endure a stopoff in Shannon to visit their cousins. Given our prices I can think of no-other Americans but high earning Americans who would want to visit.

We shall have lots of these for the Ryder cup. If they have booked a €3k+ flight they have probably been warned advance. If they haven't been warned of Shannon stop-off, and witness just 30 passengers deplane in Shannon, realise they've been paying for this landing; for the inconvenience...

My money is on: they will never return to Ireland again. (I will not return to original rant - but just think about this please)

Hmmm have to concede this makes me look pretty stupid!

However, trying to book BOS-DUB-BOS for Ryder cup I got exact same flight as I had before; BOS-DUB suggesting (due to timing only - nothing on confirmation invoice!!!) a stopoff in SNN. While this was a couple of weeks ago. Has AerLingus copped on finally?

Maybe they have - but think the damage has already been done with pax who booked 3 months in advance - not knowing they are going through SNN.

I believe there are people with confirmation slips that will deserve recompo - they will never claim it; they simply just won't ever come back here again!

The booking process always tells you as in the example I gave you whether theres a stop over or not.
Its plain to see in the screen giving you your flight options prior to you choosing them and making/paying for the booking.
So you have no case for not knowing what you are buying.

If you cant get on the direct ones incidentlt, its probably because the're full.

    The site _does_ tell you.

Doesn't stop the shannon stop-over being seriously annoying and counter-productive. Roll on November when the ratio goes from every second to every fouth flight. And April 2008 when it is finally done away with and Shannon can sink back into the sea.
