    Hi,

I thought it might be useful to get an idea of the VoIP providers people are using and how they find them.
Comments would be great, particularly covering your experience of the provider, what you use the service for and what your general views of VoIP compared with traditional PSTN phone services.
Thanks for your input, I think it's an important topic.

    I'm currently using Blueface.
I've been with them for about 6 months.
I think they're a good company but maybe, as was pointed out in another post, the pace of their growth recently has gotten the better of them.
I've used Blueface at home for calling out and receiving calls, and at work for calling out.
Overall I'm very happy with VoIP, especially the cost.

I'm currently using Broadtalk. Have been with them for about 2 months. While I cannot fault the quality of the outbound calls, I can't really comment on inbound call quality or experience as I do not have that option at the moment. Broadtalk have not provided me with a geo number for my area yet. They have "attached" a generic 01 number that cannot be dialled. The result is that people cannot return our calls. I've been onto them numerous times, when their office number actually decides to work.

So, that's 2 months without a geo or 076 number for people to call us.
When I signed up, I was told that it would take 30 days to configure. I wasn't over joyed about that. 2 weeks ago, I was told it would take another 30 days.

Oh, their website says that they charge a full minute for the first minute of a call, then they charge by second for the remainder. I've been charged "per minute" for every call I've made, sometimes upto 30 minutes per call. They still fail to acknowledge this. I've asked them a few times.

I have sent in a cancelation order yesterday and hope to move to another provider within the next few days. Maybe Blueface. I was with them months ago and never had any service problems with them. Thinking about it, I don't know why I ever moved away from them.

I'm using voipcheap at the moment great for outgoing calls as they are FREE mobile calls are good value also. the only gripe is that Quallity can be patchy, sometimes the person on the other end get a large amount of echo.
i may go to blueface in the near future just to get a number people can call me on. (is there a way to configure 2 voip providers on a router?) one for outgoing and one for incomming.

You can get a number for inbound calls for free from www.freespeech.ie.

Some routers support multiple SIP profiles.

    use skype for

    Conference calls

    webcam

I can use the skype in for clients where them calling the number is free

Skype out is not bad at €0.2cent/min

now allows texts to US mobiles for €0.09 [i think]

also I travel a lot so have it on laptop

{prolly old fashioned judging by the rest of this post]

The quality is first class for about 99% of time on skype out and in

Not great compared to the rates available from many other VoIP companies (300 minutes per week free, 1/c per minute after that, for example). It depends on how many calls you need to make.

Many US mobiles can receive e-mails, so if you have access to skype, you can probably text them for free (for example, Verizon mobiles can be "texted" at www.vtext.com, or by sending email to <number>@vtext.com).

Have been using Blueface since December 2005. Absolutely brilliant service with CS backup second to none. Highly recommend it. Linked with NTL - doesn't get much better.:D
€15 per month for all your landline calls to Ireland/UK 24/7.
