Virtual Console Prices

Virtual Console games will be bought using Nintendo Points, and you can buy them either online (maybe through the console itself?) or in shops.

According to Eurogamer the cost of games breaks down like this (same in all territories) :

    NES -- 500points.
    SNES -- 800points.
    N64 -- 1000points.

    With 2000points costing you €20 (or £16 or $20).

I think that sounds pretty reasonable. If they can make getting and spending the points easy enough, I can foresee some impulse 2000points purchases in the future - potentially three or four classic games for €20. Nice one.

They should have made the SNES games 750 though. Could have grabbed a couple of them and a NES game for €20.

Unfortunately I think we'd be lucky to see them releasing any of there real IP titles on the VC, like the classic Zelda's and Marios. Considering they still get away with rehashing these for their portables at top dollar, why give them away for less than €10? Hope I'm wrong with that one.

Wonder if this relates to star points...
I've got 6000 of the useless bastids saved up now, so I hope so!:p

Hopefully US points cards/tokens/vouchers (or whatever they're going to be called) will work on EU consoles. $20 is cheaper than €20, therefore points for less.

I've a load of star points too, it'd be great if you could swap them for VC points.

When they released the DS wasn't there a special offer with the Stars to get the DS for less?

Maybe they'll do something like that for the Wii. Hopefully, just checked my VIP Lounge, 7205 stars.

    That'd be €13.

    Super Mario World = SNES = €8
    Super Mario 3 = NES = €5

Have they confirmed 3rd party games? Or where they clever enough to include in their insane licencing thing years ago?

No 3rd party games confirmed as yet I don't think, but there is a list of old megadrive games just gone through the ratings for the Wii, so they are as good as confirmed:
    • Sonic the Hedgehog
    • Ecco the Dolphin
    • Golden Axe
    • Altered Beast
    • Columns
    • Toejam & Earl
    • Ristar

I've 9,270 so I hope I can use them, as they stopped stocking the stars catalogue with decent stuff, and I never got on in time to get anything decent when they did!

When the wii comes out, and this system is put in place, emulation is going to become super illegal

Still going to do it though!!!!! Free games FTW

am i the only one who finds these a little expensive
id rather just download the rom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

i can't see myself going mad on it since my PSP is basically a back catalogue of my old megadrive/snes games as it is. but if they make mario kart an online game and do similar with other old games, i'd be all for it.

streets of rage online co-op ftw :D

Atm i have Xbox with mame and ps2 with snes and MD, both gamepads "just not right" and i dont want to buy converter thingies and original pads.

I hate to push away from the subject, but you can do that with a certain emulater on the killera server. Never tried it, and numbers on it I guess wouldn't be great.

I'd like to see them release some of the rarer japanese titles like Sapphire, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Sin and Punishment and translated versions of the entire Fire Emblem series.

Yoshi's Island from Mario Allstars Special Ed <SNES> or Digger T Rock, or Gauntlet <NES> anyone??

Maybe a nice copy of Silicon Valley would do me brilliantly aswell.

Same as that. Compared to free it obviously looks a bit more expensive, but I don't think it's too much and what I'd really be paying for is the ease, convenience and pleasure of playing the games with a proper pad on a proper TV.

Have they told us which games (first party even) are getting released yet?

aye but as you say, on the nintendo framework there'd be actual people online at the same time as you, plus you might get the goods like VoIP and the like

That works well but again its effort to get it going , this new pay for mame that works with simple clicks enthralls me.

Very much like the XBLA except hopefully we will get better titles than those that appeared on the 360 marketplace.

Hopefully you can redeem game codes and get points which can be used on VC.

    I very much doubt it.

They give away maybe 750 points in some games. That's nearly a whole SNES game.

    No Chance.

nice line-up of VC games. Some great classics like kid icarus, F-zero and Starfox and some excellent obscurities like Bonks adventure and Ristar (excellent sonic team platformer).

Just last month there i used, erm i think it was 4000 star points to get Star Fox Adventures and its a class game..

I cannot believe you guys that have thousands of stars points and were not awake to the games they had up there, they had Luigi Manson (er i dont know if its good) they had Pokémon Emerald (don't knock Pokémon), Battilion Wars (which i should of got maybe) and what i got..

as far as VC games go id like to see Contra, Mario Kart, Mario Bros 3!! to play them again would be gem!!

    ^ read the damn charter!

and I always seem to miss out on any good stuff in the stars catalogue... last time they only had a really crappy nintendogs stuffed toy left (all of the cool breeds were long gone)

10 new games/content a week, that could be a mix of original or classic

Nellyrev, you are very close to a banning and you being a newbie is the only thing thats stopping. Post any more illegal rom sites or warez and I will have no problem banning you for a number of weeks.

This point system is a good idea imo, they can really do a lot with the virtual console, especially if they add an online mode for virtual console games !! :)

Anyone know if it is possible to earn points by winning online ?

does anyone know if the TurboGrafx-16 games will be any good ?

TurboGrafx-16 was a really popular console in Japan but it got destroyed by Sega in Europe. There are some really excelent games on it. It was an 8-bit system but with a 16-bit gpu which meant that despite not having good processing power the games looked great. There are loads of classics for it. The Bonk and Plonk games are great and the arcade conversions were usually better on the TG-16 than they were on the full 16-bit systems. R-type will probably be the TG-16 game since it was a phenomenal conversion. There are plenty of great TG16 only shmups and some nice RPGs like the Ys games although very few were translated to english. Hopefully we get to see Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, the best castlevania game imo (yes better than symphony of the night).

Lylatwars seeing as my original copy got burgled, and majora's mask seeing as I never got around to getting it, will be definate purchases for me. It's nice that all those ancient games are getting rerelased, I might pick up a couple(probably mainly for multiplayer), but I have a 1.5 psp...

Secret Of Mana was a classic RPG.. anyone else not think so ?

i believe it was a sleeper hit!!

think pokémon but their are 3 main characters not eh a million :p
