Ok my sister got a brand new latitude D820 and at a party someone spilt a can of cider over it. I took ff the keys and left it in the hotpress for a few days.
The keys are very sticky and it smells like cider.
I was wondering what is the best way to clean it or can I bring it anywhere to clean it.

I know with some laptops you can take out the entire keyboard and try to clean it best you can, if so go ahead and do that but make sure theres no electrical or metal parts to it.

Does it happen to be under warranty?:( I would bring it to a pro if you are not comfortable with it. PC World might send it off to the manufacturer though so give them a buzz (to get a quote at least) before you do so.

it was but dell wouldnt cover it anyway. The laptop is perfect im using it now. It just needs a cleaning so it stops being sticky and smelling of cider.

I could do it myself but im not sure what to clean it with

I'm not 100% sure with regard to the latitude.

Under the screen and above the keyboard there should be a panel with the power and reset buttons. This panel can be clipped off. Use a small screw driver as a lever at the very edge. There should be a small slot that you can fit a screwdriver into. Be careful and dont force it.

When clipped off, you should be able to see screws holding the keyboard in place. Unscrew these and the keyboard is yours!

As for what to clean it with? Fairy washing up liquid (just a few drops is needed) warm water and a cloth. Try to keep the connector out of the water. **Rinse it very well**. Leave to dry in a warm place for a day and voila.

If you can't get the keyboard off, you could always use some pure alcohol. Make sure its plugged out and battery is out. Use small amounts at a time on a cloth. Leave laptop to dry for several hours (drops of alcohol will dry in seconds, I'm just covering my ass!)

Use some PCB board cleaner from maplin or the likes, cuts through grease and stickyness with ease...failing that ring dell and get them to do a switcharoo for ya under warranty...tell them the keyboard doesn't work...but leave out the bulmners/house party part....

Jesus, The Laptop will be acting funny with all this alcohol. I wouldn't waste it on the Lappie, have a tipple yourself! ;)

go to a pharmacy, buy some isopropyl alcohol and a load of cotton buds.
