After reading all the self-build threads on here I'm thinking of taking the plunge. This is from someone who 2 months ago know next to nothing about the working of a computer.
I play a lot of online poker (need decent screen resolution), do a lot of surfing (dial up, no broadband). Play some games , the likes of Chanmpionship Manager,Sim City ect, nothing too flashy.
Could I get a decent rig together for less than €600 ? Or is this wishful thinking?
I have Windows XP cds, speakers, keyboard, mouse and CRT monitor.

First off, the guys who made Championship Manager 3 and previous left with their database and make the Football Manager series now. Check out http://www.sigames.com. Now for the bad part, Football Manager and Championship Manager will take whatever power you can throw at them, apart from graphics, the more the better.

What do you have at the moment component wise?

Well i picked out these parts off komplett, i think they'd make a great budget PC. You could skimp a little more on the graphics card (maybe get a X1600?) to get it a bit cheaper. (The one i have picked is really very good for its price)

I dont understand what the DDR11 Ram update 256MB to 1024MB TRANSCEN PC667 means. Is this a mixture of two different sizes RAMS or what?

I've been ranting about these guys for months now, they are brilliant. Got my rig a few weeks back and I have no complaints, had it built and shipped to me in just over a week. Got a Conroe E6400, 1GB G-skill Ram, 256MB X1900GT and 250GB HDD and all the rest for €800, plays Oblivion at ultra high settings with no probs. Highly recommend these guys, seriously.

Great to hear they're a good company. Heard of them ages ago and was tempted to take the plunge and buy, but wanted to hear some feedback first.

They are extremely tough to beat on price, sometimes cheaper than self builds!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭DVD-Lots

yeah, I even managed to convince the company I work for to buy a basic Conroe system and use as a test server. They have always gone with Dell but as this is a non critical piece of hardware, the next day on-site warranty isn't needed. For the same config Dell were looking for over €1000, I got it from Ankermann at €570!!!! My mate has 1 too and he's very happy, and I have 3 other people very interested in getting systems from them, maybe I should start looking for commission!! :D

Do they make any fuss over credit card payment like PixMania as I had to scan bills and such for them which delayed the delivery!

The price they charge for shipping is fixed but it just takes longer to get here?

Honestly, if I had know about them 3 weeks ago I would have certainly used them!!!

no probs with CC, my m8 did it that way and all he had to do was ring them with the details. I opted for COD which was sooooo handy. I ordered the PC on a Wednesday, they had it Shipped Monday evening and I had it first thing Thursday morning so no real delay imho.

I think a lot of people should be made aware of these guys as they really are unbeatable on price, even for self build. Also, the build quality was excellent for me, real neat and tidy, everything looked well on the inside.

What VAT rate did they charge you on the invoice as a matter of interest???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭DVD-Lots

    Thats Germanys VAT isnt it?

I wish there were more German online shops accepting Irish credit cards.
They are ALWAYS the cheapest due to the economy of scale thing.

jes.de only do the money transfer thing these days....are there any CC accepters left?

Oh the COD....how did that work out..?
Did you have to pay the delivery man all the money up front or what?

I dont understand to memory configuration. Is this 256MB + 1024MB RAM, or something else?
Are the 2 dvd drives necessary?

 Its the price they charge to upgrade you from 256mb to 1024mb. 256mb comes with the package originally.

Dvd drives cost fcuk all, i'd add 2, easier to copy disc to disc.

Never mind the questions, I was shocked at the price. Mental note "read the rest of the thread"

I reckon that Ankermann would be in deep s**t if the German taxman audits their operation!!!! I'm open to correction but I thought that the VAT laws on internet orders within the EU were changed in the past year or two.I think they should be charging VAT based on the country that they deliver to (ie) 21% for Ireland.

Its all good for us customers though 5% cheaper:D
