My girlfriend and I are heading to Rome in November and was wondering could anybody recommend a decent hotel at a reasonable rate(€400 - €600 total) for 5 nights. We would like to be close to the city center but being a bit out is ok - any help would be great

Ive been to Rome for 5 nights with my missus on two occasions.
I have a preferrence for staying as close to a city as possible since commuting to and from is alot like being at home on my way to work.
As a result, first time around I booked a hotel near the Colloseum - and paid in the region of 800 euro for 5 nights. Tiny corner room, no bath (which is a good idea when in Rome since theres a tendency to walk good distances), and pretty poor value for money. After 5 nights there we were happy to be heading home since it was a very very small room.

Second time out went to http://www.b-b.rm.it for an alternative to a hotel.
Booked an appartment, literally a 2 min stroll from Piazza Navona (10 mins from the Trevis fountain, 15 mins from St. Peters and the Vatican museum). It cost 145 Euro a night and was top notch - so much more space than a hotel and for 5 nights it was perfect for us.

Accomodation in Rome for hotels is very expensive but as with most places (except for right on the tourist sites) food and drink there is alot less expensive than Dublin these days.

    Hope this helps

I stayed in Rome last year and booked a hotel on www.venere.com. We booked a hotel right beside Termini Railway Station. There was a metro stop right beside us which was great for getting into town. Taxis were also not that expensive. We paid in the region of €120 per room per night.

Not a hotel, a Bed n Breakfast, but very nice. Close to the central train
station and within easy walking distance of the Colloseum, Circus Maximus,
Forum etc. Beautiful rooms, EN-SUITE, reasonable prices (40-50/NIGHT), but the breakfast is a voucher for a bar :-( Still, who eats in when in Rome!
