"Littering" with bio-degradables?

Just wondering is there a law that deals with such a thing? I see no problem in throwing a piece of fruit or veg into a ditch as it is good for the earth. I'd never do the same with a plastic wrapper or such things. Just wondering what the law on bio degradables disposal is?

The law makes no distinction between the two. It is the same offence to throw a plastic bag out the window of a car as to throw out an apple out.

And what exactly is the offence and implications of it? I'm going to continue feeding the earth and our little insect friends with good nutrients.

Would I have an argument in court if I refused to pay a fine for throwing an apple in a ditch?

    Litter Pollution Act, 1997
    ...
    Punishment for offences.
24.—(1) A person guilty of an offence under this Act shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £1,500.

    (2) If, after the conviction of a person for the contravention of a provision of this Act, the contravention is continued, the person shall be guilty of a further offence and be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £100 for each day during which the contravention continues.
    ...

I'm sure these amounts have been updated to Euro.
