Question for X-fi elite owners

    Hi

I have a X-fi elite PCI card + external box. Since buying this, I have not been able to use it to listen to music from the PC using earphones pluged into the external box though the external box connected to speakers works fine.

I have simply the x-fi cable attached from the PCI card to the external box with spdif connections from the x-fi box to the separate speakers amplifier.

I have been on to creative support but to no avail. They have tried to help by replacing the external box and cable.

So question: Is the external box designed to support the above config with my earphones connected directly to it? The earphones work when connected direct to the PCI card.

    Any advice appreciated

    Cheers
    Laurence

It should, my fatality is nearly the same only the i/o panel goes in a 51/2' drive bay. If the speakers work from the i/o box, the headphones should. Are you sure the earphones are working?

I've got my sound system connected to the card & when i insert headphones in the i/o panel it automatically mutes the sound from the speakers. Did you try to callibrate headphones in the speakers & headphones settings.

    Thx for the reply.

There is no problem with the headphones, as I mentioned they work ok when connected directly to the sound card. Have also tries multiple headphones.

    Have callibrated the headphones.

Just tried my setup here using winamp.

Like you i have the box connected with the big chunky cable to the sound card.
I'm using 5.1 out from the sound card for my head phones and coaxial out from the box to my reciever.
Mine works fine here if i plug in headphones, i dont have the box ticked that says "automatically enable headphones" (still works if i tick it).

There's a new driver due soon (only 4 months after all other cards got theirs) maybe it solves your problem. I'd try their forums as well, they seem pretty active.

    Thx Jozi

Just so I understand you correctly, you are connecting the headphones directly to the PCI sound card rather than the breakout external box? I can get the headphones working when connected to the sound card but not the breakout box.

I have the box "automatically enable headphones" ticked also...

    Will try the creative forums

    Cheers
