    2. Ntsc-US
    3. Ntsc-J
    4. Wait and see if its regionfree
    5. Wait and see if it gets modded quickly ala gamecube

I think I'll go for a PAL console. The wait will more than likely be short and since the Animal Crossing fiasco Nintendo have been rather good with PAL releases (excluding no sign of band brothers).

I'll just wait on the PAL version, as I really don't think we'll have to wait that long after the US release

Perrin Kaplan confirmed that the Wii *will* be region free on most titles (implied that the option to lock is there at developers discretion). So PAL for me. :D

    PAL

games are set at about €50, so it's more reasonable then 360 games are now. on top of that, i'd say the crazy japanese games will make their way over here fine, a-la DS

If it's region free I might be tempted by the US version. It all depends on the release date for Europe. I want one now!!!! :)

I plan to go with the US Wii aswell, though if it's region free I'll probably settle with a PAL machine. There are also the online issues to clarify.

I've thought about that too, but in the end I couldn't be bothered with the extra expense, the messing around with transformers (Not the good kind! ;)) and PAL tv vs NTSC Wii problems I'd get. Unless its a worst case scenario, and they do push it to after xmas, then I'll be too tempted to just get it!

PAL for me, patience is a virtue... unless their are region-free :/

First party games will be region free, 3rd party games may not, it's hard to tell right now.

Sorry to rain on the parade of anyone thinking about getting a US Wii or US Wii games, as of yet it'll have to be neither or both:
IGN: Is the plan to keep Wii games region free? How about the online service - will users be restricted to UK content, or will they be able to dip into say Japanese services if they prefer to?

David Yarnton: The Wii will be region-coded.

IGN: There was a report we had out of the US…

David Yarnton: No that was a mistake… games and online services will be region coded.
    Source: IGN

But he also let a possibility slip...
IGN: How will social networking be handled? Will there be anonymous friend codes like on the DS network, or will users be able to choose recognisable IDs like on Xbox Live?

David Yarnton: More details on that will come out closer to launch. But you will be able to play online, so for example with Metroid you will be able to play against friends online… [editor's note: at this point the Nintendo PR rep steps in to assert that Metroid has not been confirmed for online play].
So you could have Metroid Prime Hunters style online on your Wii? Possibly!
