Does anyone know if ucc offer any special deals/discounts on laptops for students such as ucd do?

UCC don't but you can get educational discounts from some suppliers.
The education store at the apple website for example. There's also an apple rep on campus that can get you the same discount, on ipods too.

I think they do a deal with Dell, my sister mentioned it, I'll ask her again [she's in UCC 3rd med]

To be honest you're best looking on eBay. FInd a seller with a good rating and get a used laptop and maybe a spare battery. It could end up costing you half as much, or 2/3s of much if you buy new.
