    Hi all

For all you trad fans Monto will be in The Widows Bar Parliament st Kilkenny on Thursday 5 of October

Monto are four musicians destined to meet at a crossroads that defines their common and collective interests. They come both from folk and traditional backgrounds with a respect for the riches of lyrics and melodies handed down to them. They also write their own material reflecting the great changes that have taken place in Ireland in their own time. The first two songs recorded by Monto are amongst the finest examples of story telling in Irish folk music.
Take Me Up To Monto speaks for itself; colourfully depicting a Dublin under occupation with a bitter sweet ribaldry and disdain for the English. McAlpine’s Fusiliers was chosen because it cries out in the Ireland of wealth and success as a stark reminder of the fate of so many of our countrymen who endured tremendous hardship in both their work and social circumstance in England. The plight of these forgotten contributors to our success is something that Monto grew to understand more in studio as they worked with the song. They felt the need to add a final verse to ask us to accept our share of the responsibility to care for those who are vulnerable and marginalised. Monto are young. Monto live our history through our music. Monto are today.

    Cover charge of €10 applies.
