About to take the plunge into the world of DSLR

    Hi.

So as the above goes I'm about to buy a DSLR. Now I have been looking at the Canon EOS 350D and both the Olympus E500 and E330. The thing is I get to play around with these in work all the time. I've also had the chance to play around with the Olympus cameras with their full range of lenses. I'm also waiting on the EOS 400D coming out so I can have a go at that too.

    The thing is I've just spotted a deal of sorts which comprises of an EOS 20D and a world of glass plus extras as follows;
    The kit comprises of:

    1 Canon 20D SLR Camera.
    1 Canon EF 17-40mm f4L USM Lens
    1 Canon EF 28mm f2.8 Lens
    1 Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II Lens
    1 Canon EF 80-200mm f4.5-5.6 II Lens
1 Canon Lens Hood EW-83E and Lens Case LP1319 (for 17-40L Lens)
    2 1Gb Compact Flash Cards
    1 256mb Compact Flash Card
1 Lowepro Orion Trekker Photo Rucksack
    2 Jessops 77mm UV Filters
    1 Cokin 52mm 1A Filter.
1 PCMCIA CF Memory Card Reader

This goes for around a grand. now that seems like a good deal to me. Would I be better going for this or sticking to the 350D/400D route?
    Any advice? :)

Well Alan, he does appear to work at a camera shop so I suppose there's a staff discount involved.

Nope, its a second hand deal if any, no place can let 2.5k cost price go for 1k!!

How much discount can you get?!? And who do I have to sleep with to work there?

If that was on Ebay, there'd have to be something a bit off with it.

Alan is it? Tbh That's what I'm thinking too. usually if it seems like it's too good to be true, it generally is. Nothing to do with my work at all. It's all a second had kit. In and around 18 months old. In perfect condition (doesn't everyone say that). I'll get a better idea once i talk to the guy and then see the kit. And have someone who really knows there stuff take a look at it.

    Alan it is :)

Yeah, that's seriously undercost. Off the top of my head, for second hand kit, that'd be about 400 quid under what it should be selling for...

I'd be very wary about it.

Where did you see the ad? It wasn't in the Buy and Sell was it?

    Masteroftherealm...

You SURE your mum threw out the camera bag

EDIT: Lol, and to be selling that kit, you'd either know what yer doing, or be a very angry, now poor, retard! :p:D

No not the Buy&Hell. It's a guy that seems to have no time left for photography. Now how true this is I will have a better idea of when I talk too/meet up with him and suss it all out for myself. Plus he says he prefers film anyway!

ps Alan, the discount I get on camera stuff is a joke. As stated somewhere else on this board the mark up on cameras is really next too nothing, unfortunatly!! ;)

I know - Hence my willing to sleep around to get those discounts ;)

The film thing...I dunno...Why get rid of the L lens then? Or the 50mm?

Advance carefully would be my words! Best of luck with it anyways!

The 17-40L is a sweet piece of gear, probably worth the best part of a grand on it's own.
    Merv.

If it turns out to be true it'll be the deal of the century, best of luck.
