    Hello all,
just wonderinng, and maybe this question is retarded but my brain is tired from being used in work, but say if you got the VGA cable to connect to a monitor for your 360, and slapped it into the VGA port on the back of a laptop instead of the vga port on a monitor, would you get a picture?
I only ask cause i had this brainwave today while trying to think of cheap alternatives to getting a hdtv. its either this, or steal a monitor from someone. dont let me turn into criminal. You have the power.
    Thanks

VGA ports on the back of laptops are generally video-out.

So no picture from your 360.

you could get a 19" LCD monitor for under €250 - might be a reasonable alternative. Although Ideally Widescreen would be best.

do the monitors not have to have a certain response time to work at HD?

i'd go with this 19" widescreen

    €219

there's also an ilyama one for €225 - out of stock at the moment though.

evad_lhorg - no they need to be able to support a certain resolution.

Just out of curiosity... might get a new monitor for my pc, whats a good response time?! most seem to be 8ms!

    8ms is more than adequate.

I have a monitor @ 16ms and an LCD TV @ 25ms that I've never had any problems with.

I think there are other factors to consider and not all monitors at the same response time will be the same.

what is this resolution they need to support?

Ideally, any one of these. Although it will upscale if you're not in that set of resolutions. (For example my monitor is nativly 1600x1050 but runs games just fine and they look fappingly good)

I think 1280 x 720 is the native resolution... well thats 720p as far as I know and thats the highest the games actually run at without upscaling, although I could be way off!

Is 8ms better than 16ms then?!

yes lower is generally better, but often the quality of the screen makes as much a difference... which is what i meant by not all monitors at the same response time will act the same.
