How would I go about copyrighting my music, and does it cost money?

    Thanks for any help

There is'nt really any need, your creation (whatever it is) is yours. Others have to prove they did'nt steal it or use it unauthorised. (should that happen).

The best way to protect your music is proberly do publish it ie burn it to CD and sell it, or post tracks online. This way you can show its yours its also a way of protecting ones name, I've recorded/published under the name FutureMusicCorp for 6 years so thats effectivly mine.

In Ireland once you finish a peice of work and it is a physical thing, like a CD or a sheet of music, then it is automatically copyrighted. to prove the date you wrote it, the advised method it to sent the CD or sheet music or whatever to yourself via registered post, then if anyone rips off your song, all you have to do is take them to court, whip out the unopened registered mail which will have the date on it, and present it to the court or wherever these issues are taken up.

Just to reitterate the above, the issue isn't copyrighting your music. The issue is being able to prove that the copyright is yours should anyone ever rip your material off. The most common method has been to send it to yourself via registered mail. I believe that there have been cases where judges have frowned upon this as being as water tight as many seem to think. If you want to be really, really sure you could do the above in a well sealed envelope and then but it in registered storage with a solicitor.

That's a great link to the copyright info. Nice one. Can I suggest to the mods that that link is made a sticky?

I've checked out your bebo page and songs. It's definitely quality. I recorded an album by a guy that you really remind me of. His name is Alan McGoona, he used to play alot in Donegal. Have you heard of him?

Where did you record the songs? In a way I like the chorus effect on the acoustic but it's maybe a tiny bit too much. Is your vocal close mic'ed? It sounds kind of distant, maybe a little too much so, or is that the reverb? Overall I think they sound great but I also reckon that you get them to sound even better. Your songwriting is good, you should get everything else to match!!
