Why are there no rock clubs/nights in Dublin?

Is it simply that no one has put effort into starting one or that dance/r n b makes more cash for the venue owner through admission/drink or something else?

Theres several depending how rocky is rock for you? . Fibbers has hard rock and metal all the time Voodoo frequently have rock nights (though I dont know what dates). I heard Bruxelles has changed recently but it certainly used to be very dark rock / metal. Whelans has frequent indie rock (probably not what you are looking for). Eamon Dorans downstairs usually will do midweek nights with live bands and djs after too. You might be better having this thread in the Rock/Metal forum to be honest.

But yes in general the more popular clubs are dance / rnb because they make more money. Generally heavier rock is more favoured by the young end of the age scale which equals less money/more hassle. By the time people actually are in jobs and earning money most have strayed from being overly passionate about music and will generally just go with whatever.

O-Whaylahans (Whelans) most nights if you can tolerate the crush
Crawdaddy on Wednesday has a good indie/rock night if a bit of a youngish crowd maybe.
    Fibbers
    Bruxelles
    Voodoo Lounge at times

There is a damn good live scene happening - take a chance on a few random bands. This year is and has been amazing for decent gigs ...

    Anyways what are you into....

yeah antics in pod/crawdaddy on wednesdays is good! I'd reccomend it
    Pravda does some good indie/rock
Whealans is ok - but quite dad rock-ish at times
Apparantly upstairs of fraisers on O'Connell street on Saturdays is goth/rock?

Q+A does a BIG indie rock (mixed) night in the temple-bar-music-centre every once in a while - Fri Nov 24th is the next night
