    Saw THIS ON EBAY

And it got me thinking about making some sort of carry box with a motorcycle battery inside hooked up to this and use instead of the Ezstart wand with a 7.2v battery inside.

    Benefits ::
Faster turnover and higher juice = better starting???

    Downside::
12v through the starter motor ??? what current would hit the glo plug??

I think these may be Q's for Coolwings. :D

It's a bit like a bulkier version of what I use myself. Only I don't bother with the starter motor for my own stuff.

A power panel acts like a transformer to reduce the 12V down to 2V for the glowplug so that's not any problem. Except you need the power panel as well as the starter box / motor!

Bulk would not bother me much as it would save having to bring a couple of battery packs as I normally have the T-Maxx and The Revo with me and on a bad starting day they eat up the stick packs.

    On the other hand.
You say that i would need a power panel as well to reduce th 2v ?

Does the EZstart not do that automatically as it is??

I have one of those EZ starts somewhere, its the original 1.5 traxxas EZ start, dont know about pumping 12 volts in to it though!!!

If you look closely at it, it is designed to be cable tied on to a 7,2v pack, then the tamiya connector from the 7.2 loops back in to the starter, with a fly lead off for the revo/tmaxx!

I think the EZ start is set up for operation off 7.2 volts, isn't it?

yes, but it may have a volatge regulator to run off of 12 volts, But i am not going to be the one to find out if that is true ;)

You could always get a resistor, I had one years back for an electric car I had and it was handy for giving the batteries a fast charge. It's been so long now since I used it, thought it was a half ohm metal resistor, but I'm open to correction there, 'cause like I said it's been a long time. It was shaped like a metal wafer for the want of a better description :P

    Guys,

I have a question with some of the points in the opening of the thread.

    Faster turnover?
I have shaft start grand I like it a lot, however if you aim to put more turnover speed and force/torque while trying to start wouldnt this increase your odds of possibly breaking something if its flooded? Im not for a second referring to you knowledge, but just bearing in mind that these system are being sold to noobs like myself! I think I may broke a conrod due to hydro locking I dont know but it was suggested thats how it broke.
At least with pull start it wont budge! Am I partially correct?
(I now know that if it aint starting take plug out turn over whilst upside down, and maybe try another plug.)

    Also EZ Starts
Isnt the starting motor onboard the buggy? doesnt this add weight?

    Just wondering
    Nick

yes, the motor is onboard and yes, it could break summat, but it hasn't yet ;)

the motor is fairly hefty as well, but for bashing, its way faster than a glo start and pull start!

    Hi Nick

A broken conrod? You could be right, but I would think it is something else, based on what you said.

I reckon you have a seized engine.

here is how you tell which it is:

with a broken conrod, there are metal shards in the engine blocking the works, so if you rotate the flywheel, or pullstart, the engine rotates a bit, then locks up as it hits the piece of metal. You can rotate the engine backwards off the blockage again until it hits it going the other way.
    but
if you try to rotate the engine with pullstart or flywheel and it won't budge even a tiny bit, then it is seized.

    Hi folks,

A well. Just was wondering on those questions above..grand.

About the conrod that was on my first engine the second is going like stink!
no shards during or after break in. for some reason that first engine hat lots? I had none in the second. I heat cylced the second engine and think its a better way of running in.

They do look cool cos you dont need to have three hands!
1 to hold the buggy, 1 to hold glow igniter and 1 to trigger shaft start.

    Thanks for answering those.
Good luck with buying that ez start! looks like it could turn over a secourski helicopter!! :D
